"I have never seen a nightfury this close before! He's beautiful." My mom said. It still was strange to be here with my mom. I had told her about everything that had changed on Berk and about the riders, but I had not told her about Astrid though I didn't know why. In return she had told me about what she had done these past years. It was amazing!
"He seems to be in your age. No wonder that you works so well together. But his tail... who did this?" She asked
"Eh...um... well it was me. But he got me back!" I said
"Right bud? You couldn't save all of me, could you? You just had to make it even. So peg leg!" I continued with a laugh and showed mom my prosthetic leg.
"Oh." She said compassionate
"It's okay." I said
"The other must wonder where I am. We better go back." I said and she nodded.
When I got back to the others they sat around the fire and looked worried.
"Maybe we should go looking for him?" Fishlegs asked
"No need." I said as I walked to them.
"Hiccup! Where have you been?" Heather said
"Well I found my mom and lost track of time, sorry." I said. They looked really shocked
"What?!" They said
"I found my mother." I answered
"She has a cave here and told me that we can sleep there while we're here." I continued
It took a while to explain everything for them but after a while they accepted it and came with me to her cave. It was quite big with a fire, two beds and some other things. Her dragon, Cloudjumper, was lying in the corner. She talked with everyone and answered all their questions.
When everyone else had fallen asleep I sat with her at the fire. We laughed but she always had a strange expression like if she was waiting for something bad to come.
"Mom, what is it?" I asked
"I keep waiting for the question to come."
"which question?"
"Why I didn't come back." She said sad
"Why didn't you?" I asked. I knew that we both needed the answer to come out.
"I thought that I wasn't good for Berk or for you or your father. I thought that it was better this way." Tears rolled down her face.
"I'm so sorry Hiccup. But all these years I have always loved you and your father. Could we maybe start over?" She asked truly sad but also hopeful
"Mom, no one can change the past and the only thing that matters now is that I have found you again. So of course we could." I said and hugged her.
