Astrid felt much better now, though she still held my hand for support when she walked. I'd had a constant feeling of worry and panic since Mom told me yesterday. The worst thing was that we didn't know how long we had before...I can't even think it. It hurts too much. We didn't know if we had months or only days to find the antidote and it made me completely freak out. But Astrid stayed calm, she focused on getting the cure instead of freaking out since it didn't help anyone. I wished I could do that too.
Everyone looked so pitiful on us when we walked through the village that it was a relief to get inside of Gothi's hut. I guessed the word had spread.
Mom and Ingrid were already there when we walked in and gave us both supportive hugs. I squeezed Astrid's hand and turned to Gothi. She smiled compassionate at Astrid and started writing on the ground with her stick. Ingrid translated for us.
"The poison is called The trick of Loki since it seems harmless but then comes out from nowhere more dangerous than others..." She started then her eyes widened as she read the next line.
"And Viggo was right... there is no cure." I felt my legs give in and I fell down on a chair behind me. My heart felt like a rock at my feet and the tears almost started to... A smack on my head woke me up. Gothi stood with her stick raised and looked at me very annoyed.
"She wasn't finished." Mom told me
"Yeah I got that." I rubbed the sore spot on my head where a bump began to form.
"So what can we do?" Astrid asked. Gothi started writing again.
"There is no cure to the poison but there is a way to get rid of it. But it is dangerous." Astrid and I shared one look but I already knew what we would answer. We would do anything to get her well again.
"How?" Astrid asked.
"The only way to get rid of the poison is to get a disease that kills the poison when it gets into your system..." Ingrid translated
"Which disease?" Mom asked. It took a while for Ingrid to read what it said. Maybe because she didn't want to believe it.
"...The scourge of Odin." She stated.
I felt how my face lost all color. No. Not again. Astrid has already had that. And she barely survived it.
"Good." Astrid then said to my surprise. I turned to her
"What!? How can this be good?!?" I exclaimed. She turned to me and took both of my hands in hers.
"Because we know about it, I more than most, and we know where the cure is. So we can get me infected and then cure me directly afterwards." She explained.
"But what if something goes wrong?" I asked weakly
"Hiccup, I'm already dying. This is the only way." She said. I took a deep breath and then turned to Mom and Ingrid.
"Then let's find the scourge of Odin."
