Seraphim Zephyr the Third - POV;
"They took Xyder. They said they're going to kill him. Why aren't you doing anything?" Evelynn muttered, standing some distance away from me.
"She's waiting for your answer Seraphim," Catherine stated, staring in my direction.
"Nothing I say or do will change the World Heirarchy's opinion in Xyder's favour. If that is the absolute outcome, why should I even try appealing to them?" I responded.
"Because he's your grandson! He's my brother! He's father's son! What other reason do you need?!" she barked through a stream of tears. I was taken slightly aback by her sudden outburst. For all my years she'd never spoken to me like this. I could feel the anger, pain and sorrow emanating from her core as she spoke.
"What good does saving a grandson or even a son do?" I asked.
"What? What are you saying? What is wrong with you? What happened to you? The grandpa I knew would always run to us happily and throw us around playfully. The grandpa I knew would count the days until we came to visit and spend the weekend at his office. The grandpa I knew loved us with all his heart and soul but ever since you threw out Xyder, you've changed.... I didn't say anything but all these years I've known that you aren't the grandfather I knew. What are you?"
"What are you saying Evelynn? It's still me," I answered.
"No. If it were, you would do all you could to save Xyder. No human could be so apathetic. What are you?" she repeated.
"Evelynn, there's something else I should have told you before-" Catherine began but stopped abruptly as I rushed forward and wrapped my arms around her daughter.
"Grandfather?!" Evelynn exclaimed.
"Evelynn, what do you feel?" I questioned.
"You're hugging me."
"And?"
"And... it's warm... loving... protective...." she continued.
"And that is the problem. I feel nothing," I told her.
"Huh? What do you mean?" she asked.
"Just that," I muttered releasing her, "I feel nothing. No warmth, no love...... no emotion."
"Huh? What?" Evelynn repeated, evidently confused.
"I guess it's as you say. I'm not human. In gaining apathy I lost my identity," I snickered.
"I.... what are you saying? This isn't making any sense!" I exclaimed.
"It's just as he said Evie, he doesn't feel emotion.... he can't feel emotion," Catherine murmered.
"How does that explain anything?!" she squealed.
"Evelynn, let me tell you a story," I told her, "The story of how I came face to face with the Lord of Hell himself."

"Seraphim, come here my child," my father beckoned from his chair.
"What is it father?" I questioned as I approached.
"Today marks your twentieth birthday. You have grown into a fine young man," he smiled through a thick, full, white beard as he placed a hand on my shoulder.
"Thank you father, but where does this come from?" I asked curiously.
"My time will soon come to an end boy. At sixty I am feeble and my body grows weak. I cannot protect and lead Zephyr as I once did. The day is fast approaching for me to pass the torch to one fit to maintain the role. You will reign as Regulus of Zephyr, Seraphim the Third," he proclaimed.
