Chapter 71 - Raise the Name of Zephyr
*Present Day*
Aurora Neptulus - POV;
"Not long after that, I'd heard from Regulus Damon that Cynthia had died in an accident along with the heir of the Regulus name in Zephyr, Kristæl, and a woman from a neighbouring town, the wife of its Mayor I believe. But, I haven't really done much ever since. I've lived a humble life, trying to forget, but ober the years, nothing could soothe the sparks of anger and hatred in my heart. Each time the world proclaimed Zephyr's greatness, all it did was feed those embers until they could become the ravaging flames they now are. For all this time I have been oblivious to what exactly occurred on that day Mother died but what I do know is that Zephyr sent her to die. I can never forgive that..." I spat.
Following a moment of silence, Xyder spoke up, "You're wrong. Zephyr didn't send her to die."
"What?" I questioned, "How could you say that when moments ago you believed it was an 'accident'?"
"You're right," he continued, "I always thought it was just a mistake but that doesn't change one fact; my mother wouldn't allow another to dictate her like that. From the brief time I knew her and the stories I was told by my step-mother, Catherine, and my gramdfather, Regulus Seraphim, my mother was always a leader; the first to step forward, always headstrong and she wrote her own story. No one could make her act against her will, not even my father if he wanted to. If she said that she chose to do this, then you can be damn well certain that she wanted this."
"I...... I see," I murmered.
"Man, it all makes sense now. I'd always wondered how could someone who was feared for his power and strength like Kristæl Zephyr suddenly fall victim to a mere "accident". So it turns out they went into something knowing they would die and leave their seven year old brat behind, all alone..... How damn selfish," Xyder snickered sarcastically but I could hear immense sadness in his voice.
"Xyder, that's...... I'm sorry. I wasn't the only one to have lost on that day. I can only imagine what you've gone though," I consoled him.
"No, that's fine. It's been eleven years. I've come to terms with it. I know some of the characters from your tale myself; Aquarius, Damon, mother, father...... Alva," he smiled.
"Alva? Does she still live with Zephyr?" I inquired.
"More than that, she thrives. She went so far as to cop the title of Epitome of Light and she was actually supposed to fight in the tournament with us. Certain..... annoyances... have come up though and she isn't taking part any longer," he explained, "Although what Alva has told me was that her an mother's both parents passed away and they were brought into Zephyr after the fact because Seraphim and their father were friends who promised to one day join the families. Some of this does add up to your story but other obvious discrepancies exist."
"It seems that your grandfather wasn't the only one keeping secrets. Your step mother and Alva have been decieving you as well," I told him bluntly.
"Yes, I'd agree. I think that I'll have to have a word with all of them when time permits," he grinned.
"That's for the best," I smiled, "You, at the very least, deserve to know what happened to your mother and father. They've been hiding the truth but it is what will set you all free."
"I must say though, it took me around eighteen years, but at least I finally know that it is the very boy Cynthia had hated and was adamant would not be her mate ended up being the one to steal her heart. Looking at you now Xyder, you look just like him. You're the splitting image of Kristæl; strong, built, powerful yet calm, kind and thoughtful. I wish I could have been there to see you grow like the sister mother wanted me to be," I admitted.
