Fortunately, and unfortunately, Jidenna didnt show up for lunch so I enjoyed my plantain and eggs just right.'Forget this guy is puzzling me ooh' Fiyin said as we left the dining room. 'What is bursting this one's head now' Anulika said joining us 'ooh girl free now. I'm going to look for my best friend .see you later' Fiyin said frustrated and I just giggled while Anulika  him.'What is your deal with boy' I asked Anulika smiling. 'Me? Nothing I just like killing his ego' Anulika said.' Speaking of ego, how was lunch. You know?Jay?' Anulika asked 'he didnt come so I enjoyed my food' I said uninterested.' Nawa oh,  Jay is usually very friendly. I can't imagine why  he doesn't want to talk to you.' 'Oh maybe  he is  a racist and  he just hates my skin colour .' I said trying to think of a suitable explanation for his behaviour.'you know I really dont care if just one guy dislikes me,it's his business' I said. 'Wo forget that one let's go and get your books and locker key.' Anulika said leading the way to the book store and I followed.
'nawa for you,Anulika. You talk too much. No wonder Fiyin gets frustrated most of the time' I exclaimed as Anulika just finished talking nonstop about the few times Joshua acted like he was attracted to her. Anyway can't blame a lovestruck girl.'ahnahn now are you calling me a talkative, so you are siding Fiyin now abi. I  won't talk.' Anulika said and I blew her a kiss and she pushed it away laughing.'but tell me ooh, isn't Joshua handsome'.Anulika said on cloud 9 all over all over again.'Abeg Anulika let me rest'.I said and she rolled her eyes as we left the bookstore.'Kaima where have you been, your mum has been looking for you. You've forgotten we are boarders  righ' Joshua said as we got out of bookstore and Anulika excused herself for some obvious reasons.'Kaima your mum is hmmm' Fiyin said wriggling his brows as he walked to us and I glared at him.'I don't blame you. Mumu.'Joshua frowned at him.'guy free me. You guys are always acting like I need deliverance. Can someone appreciate God's work again nawa ooh.'I swear you really need deliverance.' I frowned at him before leaving. 'Chukwuka I've been looking for you since ehn' my mum said pulling me into a hug. Talk of embarrassing. I thought when I looked back and saw Fiyin, Joshua and Jidenna all looking at me like they wanted to laugh.'mummy's girl' I think I heard Jidenna whisper and they looked like they were mockking me.'Kaima bye' Fiyin said with a huge smile on his face like he wanted my mum to notice him which she did.' Is that your friend. How are you'. My mum didn't allow me to talk before she went to say hello to them, including Jidenna and he acted like he was actually my friend. Greeting her with a smiling face and listening as she is probably telling them to face their books and make their parents proud.'can we go'.I interrupt when their chat gets too long.'okay boys take care of yourselves and kaima for me bye'.she said and we walked to the car.'so baby how was your day. Why am I even asking you've made friends already. Ahn what are their names again. That one with glasses is Joshua abi then there is Fiyin the clown.and then Jidenna is the black American abi?'mum said'Jidenna is definitely not my friend,if you see how he eyed me, you'll think I stole.'I rolled my eyes and my mum laughed. My mum and I were like two peas in a pod. Close like anything. I could tell her anything and everything without her African parent judgement and I loved her for that. She was expecting me to bring gist for her and she would give me gist too but she would still add the morals in then.like when she tell me how her wedding night was since she was a virgin and all.
'Maybe he was having a bad day or some boys even act like that, then they like the girl' my mum said smiling broadly.'abeg mummy don't start. Jidenna is a snob, end of matter. And he's even in my class and on my table in the dining room.' I said and caught my mum closing her eyes.' Hmm mummy, what are you doing now' I said and she opened her eyes smiling. 'Oh me, I thanking God for giving me a handsome son-inlaw' my mum said and I groaned as she laughed continued driving.
'Mum I'm done with my homework and hmmm is that egusi I'm smelling.'I smiled as the scent filled the kitchen. 'See your mouth like egusi soup. like father like daughter.'my mum smiled and allowed me to taste a little.'speaking of which, when is dad coming back. I miss him so much.' I asked and frowned sitting on the counter and mixing the semolina paste.'calm down ehn Chukwuka. When he finishes his business there he'll come abi. Stop worrying about him ehn' my mum said and I sighed. 'But it's just that I'm going to join the boarders this Saturday and I'll not see for a while' I said and my mum kissed my forehead and I smiled ' oya give my semolina before you turn it to nonsense' she said and I laughed. I went  back to my room and saw a thousand messages from Anulika and Fiyin. What I get for giving them number. I'm just glad I don't have to struggle for friends. I slept off reading Anulika's voice notes on WhatsApp.
