Chapter 14

I have "never"..emphasis on never...cried over a boy before in my life. Well mostly because there has never been any boy to cry over. Can't blame a girl that went to a girls only school. After I left the class I went to a quiet corner and sobbed. Aren't I pathetic. Crying over a boy with a girlfriend. The worst part is that I dont like him any less. 'Kaima..' I heard and tried wiping my face and eyes violently, it was Fiyin. My crush's bestie how wonderful. 'Have you seen Jidenna. His aunt has been looking for him.' Fiyin asked 'his aunt?' I asked even though it was clearly not my business. 'Oh mrs laurel is his aunt' Fiyin said and my eyes widened. 'I know righ.' Fiyin laughed but I wasnt smiling. ' I think he's in class' I murmured and ' okay buh why are crying.' Fiyin said surprising me.' I'm not crying. Something is in my eye' I said, ' ehn now, tears. You don't want to tell me righ.so you don't trust me. ' he said making me feel bad a little and nodding his head.' Okay promise you wont tell anyone' I said, what are you doing Kaima. 'I swear,you can trust me.' He said staring at me, ' I like Jidenna, and he doesn't like me. Not even as friends. Oh God, I probably sound foolish. Please don't ever mention it to anybody especially him.' I said and Fiyin looked at me with a sad smile.' Okay I promise,not to say anything till you want me to.' Fiyin said and hugged me. Aside from bieng a pervert,Fiyin was a mature caring person. 'I think you should go to hostel, soak good garri(cassava flakes) in cold water and go and sleep. You will enjoy it baje(bad) and forget about that one. I don't know what is wrong with him sef but dont worry, I wont tell him anything unless you want me to tell him.' Fiyin said and I laughed.' Goat' I murmured smiling. 'I'm sure he likes you ' Fiyin whispered something like that as he left
My mum doesn't allow me take garri but I had to follow Fiyin advice and it was heavenly. 'Fiyin ehn, that is the only advice he can give somebody. He'll be behaving like someone without money,even though he is omo baba olowo( rich man's son).' Anulika said when she came to my room and I told her,excluding all info on Jidenna. 'Fiyin's dad is former Nigeria ambassador to Philippine. Yet he will be acting like one poor thing. When we went to his house,I wanted to faint.' Anulika said and I stared at her. I knew Laurels students were all rich but seriously. 'Let me gist you joor. Esosa's dad was a governor of a state. That's why she's proud. Nonsense even the son of ambassador is not proud. Em Nonso's dad is part of top management in chevron. Then Jidenna's dad was a former basketball champ. Now he's a lawyer for the best b ball team and the owner of pinpoint. They make gym appliances. Jidenna's family is rich. Their house is tech heaven. Do you know you clap you hands to switch on the light or you say lights". It's oh my God'. Anulika said. Normally, I would have been thrilled to hear about Jidenna buh today I wasn't. No wonder,he liked Esosa. Two rich and proud. Jealous much.' Anu I want to...' I was cut off when my phone rang ' mummy,' I smiled

'How's my girl. I'm missing you'

'Fine and me too'

'I hope no trouble. How are you friends. Em.. Anulika and Fiyin and of course Jidenna'
Jidenna is far from being my friend.

'Fine are you lonely at home'

'Yes but your dad will soon be home'

'Ok take care'

'You too. I love you'

'I love you too baby.'

'Hmm mummy's girl,abeg I'm going to sleep' Anulika said climbing off my bed.' Me too' I yawned and laid back.
Anulika and I overslept and woke up when it was time for dinner. 'Is it garri that made us sleep like that' Anulika asked when she came to my room with sleep lines on her face and I laughed. 'Better,go and wash your face' I laughed pulling on my tshirt and jeans and Anulika sleepily went to the bathroom. When I got to the dining room, Anulika rushed to her table either to continue her sleep or because Joshua was there. This girl was confused,sometimes it's Fiyin and sometimes it's Joshua. I walked to my seat hoping Jidenna wont come for dinner but he was there laughing and talking to a girl that was sitting on my seat opposite him. Taking a deep breath,I walked up to them, avoiding Jidenna's eyes and smiled sweetly at the girl.' Oh hi you're Kaima right, the new girl. I'm Esosa. Everybody has been talking about the new girl....' she said shining a smile. Ok Anulika exaggerated, she's actually pretty but yes she was skinny. And she didnt seem that bad but I caught Fiyin glaring at her.' I wasn't expecting anyone to still call me new,and talk about me' I said still backing Jidenna, '... well like duh ... I like honestly don't see what's so special with you, that like everyone is talking about. Like you're so black.' And you are so pink right. Anulika and Fiyin were right. She is irritating.' That's what I thought too. What's so special' I heard behind me. Jidenna. And the nonsense was laughing.' Whatever, you are on my seat so can you "like" get up' I said with her stupid accent.' Can't you sit somewhere else. Everybody is sitting on any body's seat.' Jidenna defended her. This girl has charmed him oo. 'It's my seat and I want to sit there.' I said to Esosa trying to ignore Jidenna. I know I was acting childish, but I was so angry and tad jealous of Esosa with the way he was defending her.' Abeg Jay carry your babe somewhere else and let our housemate sit down joor, you can go to Esosa's table abi they don't have chairs in yellow house ni.' Fiyin said, defending me. Jidenna stood and Esosa kept her hand in his as they walked away.' Abeg dont mind them joor. Jidenna can be annoying when she's around. Stupid prost. She said you are black, does she expect everyone to bleach like her.' Fiyin said in disgust and I smiled a little. 'Kaima are you sure you dont want me to tell Jay, you like him so he can abandon that one kiakia( fast)' Fiyin said concerned and I nodded. Jidenna ate dinner on her table that night.
