Chapter 38

        'Why are you avoiding me'

           That question floated before an awkward silence. He still held my wrist.  "Im not avoiding you" I whispered and tried to pull my hand away. I managed to look up at his face and his hardened expression, suddenly turned to a smirk that almost weakened me. " youre obviously avoiding me. You normally stare at me from afar but now you cant even look me in the eye while im talking to you." He said proudly and I kept quiet,  suddenly he released my hand sighing and reached for his pocket and my head shouted run but my legs stayed glued to the ground. " is it because of this " He said pulling out an all too familiar sheet of paper from his pocket and I cringed blushing hard.  Talk of embarrassing moments.  " I tried to quickly grab it from him, forgetting he's way taller than me and I was just few inches away from him.  He shifted his hand making me fall on him completely. His hand that was without the love letter quickly went round my waist to stop me from falling as he smirked
      Mehn it was starting to get hot in here.
       "Hey you dont expect me to just give you my first love letter right" He said with a smile and I realised his hand was still round my waist. " I need to go" I pulled away completely wanting to get away from him as far as possible. " what exactly are you angry about.  Its not like I'd tell anyone you think im a dark example of a Greek god" He chuckled repeating a line from my letter buh I kept my face hardened.  Who knew my dark greek god was corky. "It was just a dare" I rolled my eyes suddenly hoping break would be over. "Yh, buh it's not like you dont have a crush on me " He said bluntly and my eyes widened, "Fiyin told you?" I said quietly. " nah , but you just did" He laughed and stared at him in horror. "You are such an asshole. " I said frowning, this guy was actually annoying a bit but part of my heart was so glad he was bieng so cool with me. " im not sure that's what you meant by .. ." He started smiling and I shut him up before he could repeat another line I wrote " Fine,  gosh. What's it to you anyway. You obviously don't like me too" I said looking away " and who the heck told you that." Jidenna asked raising a brow on that beautiful face. Stop it Kaima, focus. "You told me with your mouth, the day after you almost killed me with ammonia." I said and his jaw hardened before he looked away.  I tried to walk away already devising a plan to steal the letter." But people change you know." He said stopping me in my tracks. Wait what did he just say. " wait what do you mean" I turned back to see him looking away.  But I never got my answer cause students already began trooping in and he silently returned to his seat with his hands in his pocket.
      " wow wow wow " Anulika kept repeating after I told her of my  experience with Jidenna during gym class, Jidenna had been staring at me since after lunch " stop, saying wow joor, what do you think he meant by that. " I frowned  doing my warmups and watching Jidenna carry the dumbbell.  He was so hot in his sportswear, I almost drooled. "Hey earth to Kaima, " Anulika snapped her fingers in my face and I looked at her. " I asked if you were going to continue avoiding him." Anulika said as Mr Victor entered the gym. " everyone drills now. Let's go in twos. One boy and one girl" He shouted and everybody ran in all directions to get a partner, actually a lot of girls ran to Jidenna and Fiyin like they didnt know Fiyin would pick Anulika and Jidenna would pick ....... me. My eyes widened questioning when I saw him hold my wrist gently with a smile and from the corner of my eyes ,I could already see Esosa glaring at me equally as surprised as I was. Yh Gym class was for everyone in ss3. "Come on, partner. Let's go." He said and we started running to the field to start our drill. "Again, if your partner is tired, leave him or her and run.  If I meet up with you. It's dining service for  next week. " mr Victor said . "You want me to carry you on my back" Jidenna chuckled and I shook my head laughing. But I actually really wanted him to because my chest was starting to hurt but I didn't want mr Victor to punish  us or people to say anything especially that Esosa of a bitch. "Are you sure. You seemed tired and you are slowing down" He reduced his pace to mine. " I think you should sit." Jidenna said finally at my pace which was walking slowly." I just need to catch my breath. You can go on so you wont be on dining service. I know  already know im doing that" I said but  he completely ignored me and squatted in front of me. " what are you doing." I asked surprised as he tapped on his back. "Get on, dont let me make you. Youre too tired to walk back" Jidenna said and I stared at him. "Ok ok." I murmured when I saw he was going to cause everyone's attention on us and I let him carry me on his back, wrapping my arms around his neck and letting his scent fill my nose. "Yes Jidenna, whats going on" mr Victor shouted from across the field drawing everyone's attention that we were trying to avoid.. Mehn, his voice was loud. "Everyone  stopped to look at us all surprised especially Anu, and my roommates who were grinning, Fiyin who was with a smirk and Esosa who was totally hating.  I blushed and buried my face in his soft curly hair, While Jidenna tightened his grip on my bare thighs that were exposed from the short sportswear but I wasn't complaining.  " we are going back because she's tired. We'll do the dining service together" He said curtly not caring that anyone was looking at him. "Ok na, be going" mr Victor said and the murmuring started. " me, im tired too  oo. I want to  do dining too" I heard Anulika's voice and giggled against Jidenna.  "Join them na." Mr Victor said and then like a cue everybody starting shouting 'im tired' I felt Jidenna chuckled. "Very good ehn,  all ss3 have dining service next week. Jidenna you are in charge" mr victor said followed by the shrill exicted voices shouting 'osheyyy'. Jidenna laughed as some people placed us giving him a punch on the shoulder . They were seriously excited of washing their junior plates and cleaning the tables. " What daa f... Anulika" I shouted embarrassed as Anulika smacked my ass while I was still on Jidenna's  back and I could see he was trying hard not to laugh and drop me. " Babes why  is your yansh so big and soft" she said tapping my ass again and this time Jidenna actually laughed along with Anulika  and Fiyin who just joined us while I shot her a murderous look.  "Can I check" Fiyin teased and this time Anulika and Jidenna shot him the murderous look.  " hey na joke oo" he laughed. " hey Jay, let's see who go reach class first (lets race to class)" Fiyin said and I raised a brow at him. " Fine, if you carry Anulika on your back." He responded and Anulika blushed. Her shorts were way shorter than mine buh she got on Fiyin's back. " am I not heavy" she asked as he gripped her very fair thighs like a life support.  "Nah babe" he said and I held on to Jidenna too like my life depended on him. " on your mark, ready, set, Gooo" Biyi counted and the boys started running and Anulika and I started laughing without care of the students or teachers who stared at us. Maybe the letter wasn't actually a bad idea.
