Hi yes I've already explained this before, but people are still confused so-
Romans mark is still black!!!!!! Black marks don't ever change colors!!!! Even if Virgil had stopped loving him, the mark would still be black!!!!!!!!!! The only time a tally mark would ever change colors is if it changed from a red one to a black one, but once a mark is black it never goes away, no matter what! (Unless they die, then it becomes a scar but that doesn't apply to this book bc no ones gonna die I promise) I hope that explains why Roman doesn't know, sorry for the confusion.

Oh and also before a fight genuinely breaks out in the comments, literally everyone is kinda in the wrong here?? I mean, not really Patton and Logan, they couldn't help they had feelings for someone but Virgil definitely shouldn't have kissed anyone behind Roman's back, and while it was entirely fair of Roman to tell him to leave if he had let him explain things might be easier, but he was upset which is entirely fair. Though, it isn't exactly healthy to assume things without hearing the full story. Anyways, everything about the situation could've been handled better on both situations, but-and this is very important-this is a fictional story, so everything that has happened creates drama and a more exciting to read plot. This book is certainly not something to get into a genuine fight over, lmao.

"Why do I have to go? I told you, I don't feel well enough to go to school!" Roman insisted to his mother, who was attempting to get him out of the bed so he could get ready for school.

"You've already missed too much school. You're not running a fever, you haven't thrown up, and you're not even telling me why you feel so terrible. So, you're going to get up and get ready for school." His mother pulled the blankets off of his bed, turning and walking out of the room with them so her son would finally have to get up. "If you don't get up now you won't be allowed to spend any time with your friends for the next week outside of class."

"Not like I wanted to see them anyways," Roman muttered to himself, still climbing out of his bed. He didn't want a punishment any worse than that one, and he knew he would get one if he continued to argue with her. So reluctantly, Roman got ready for the day and left his house, walking as slow as possible to get to his school. He had plenty of time to get there anyways, and he didn't really want to end up waiting outside standing all alone.

Unfortunately when he got to school he found himself in an even more awkward situation. Of course, he was just a few minutes too early, and he found exactly the people he was hoping he would never have to face again. When Roman spotted them he wondered why they had decided it was a good idea to meet right in the front of the school in a spot that everyone had to pass by to get inside the building.

While looking in the direction of his ex-boyfriend and best friends, Virgil happened to glance in his same direction. The two of them met eyes, and Roman instantly felt his welling up with angry tears. He watched them all for a moment, looking from Virgil over to Patton and Logan, who both were talking and laughing. He saw both of their faces drop when they saw Virgil looking worriedly in his direction, both of them following his gaze and looking at Roman as well.

Roman watched them all for a few more seconds before turning away, keeping his head down as he walked towards the school entrance. He passed by them without even sparing a second glance, not noticing the way Virgil's face fell, or how his eyes filled with tears as Patton and Logan rushed to comfort him. He was too angry to care, thinking of how happy they all must be to have him finally leave them alone.

Roman stood in the hallway after one of his classes, wondering what he should do now that it was lunchtime. He didn't want to go to lunch-if he ran into his old friends they may try to say something to him, and he didn't exactly have any other friends to sit by. He would be embarrassed by sitting alone. As Roman was considering his options he didn't notice two students coming up behind him until they spoke, whirling around suddenly after being startled by them.

"Roman," Patton started, looking scared. Logan was with him, but Virgil was nowhere to be seen.

Great, Roman thought. Virgil sent them to fix his problems.

"I don't want to talk to you," Roman said quickly, turning away from them to close his locker door.

"Please Roman, hear us out!" Patton pleaded, sounding close to tears. Roman wondered why-shouldn't they be happy? He was out of the way, they finally had what they wanted. Why were they even bothering talking to him? Were they trying to make things worse for him? "If you'd just listen to us so we can explain-"

"What is the point?" Roman snapped, whirling back around again to glare at them both. Patton took a step back, shrinking into himself while Logan held his hand, squeezing it reassuringly. Roman kept going, raising his voice as he continued. "I already know, and I'm out of your way now, right? You don't give a shit about me or my feelings clearly, so why? Why bother saying anything?"

"That isn't true!" Patton said quickly, shaking his head. "We do care, Roman! And if you'd just listen then-"

"Stop," Roman choked out, swiping at his eyes. Why, why did he have to cry? He was supposed to be angry. "Don't pretend. If you really cared you would have explained this to me from the beginning, but instead you went behind my back. You all lied to me, so don't pretend you still care anything about me and my feelings."

Roman drew in a shaky breath, wiping more tears from his eyes and glaring weakly at them once again. "I'm not listening to either of you." He said, turning again for the final time and beginning to storm off. He didn't make it very far before a hand caught his arm, pulling him to a stop.

"Roman, wait," he heard Logan speaking this time. He barely even thought before he grabbed Logan's hand, roughly pulling it away from him and shoving Logan backwards into the locker he had just left. He felt a twinge of regret as he realized what he did, seeing Patton rush over to his boyfriend, asking if he was okay. However he didn't let it stop him from finally making his escape, rushing in the direction of the school exit. He didn't care what his parents would say, or what kind of punishment he might receive for ditching school. All he knew was he needed to be out of there.
