In the anime, Ash Ketchum in Johto didn't get to travel with Lyra, witch is the girl/female supposedly companion of Johto, instead he continues traveling with Misty
Then, in Hoenn, Brock was supposed to be replaced by another character because he was Asian and black considered as racism. However, the company noticed that the fans never did got bothered of it or found it disturbing, instead, they rallied for Brock to come back. So, did it happen.
