~Day 67~

You know how when you're running in slow motion in your dreams and it seems to take you forever to get away from whatever you're running away from?

Rebecca was feeling that right now as she felt like she was running in slow-motion down the hallways of the school. She turned her head back and saw that the herd of Walkers were still chasing after her, Shane and Otis.

Rebecca pushed herself harder to run faster as she ran past Shane. She was now in the lead as she sprinted towards a set of doors that was at the end of the hallway. As she got closer, she stopped abruptly as she saw that the doors were chained up. She silently cursed to herself and looked at Shane. Suddenly, an idea came to light.

"I'll go right, you two go left," she panted. "That way we can split up the herd." Shane shook his head. "No, we're not splitting up!" "We don't have time to argue, Shane!" She hissed at him as the herd got closer.

"Just split up!" Rebecca ordered as she ran down the hallway. Shane let out a curse before running down the opposite way with Otis right behind him.

The herd then split up into two as half of the walkers went after Shane and Otis while the other half went after Rebecca.

Rebecca ran into an empty science room and roughly closed the door behind her. Panicking, she quickly glanced around the room to find something to barricade the door with.

Her eyes settled onto one of the long black table. She wasted no time going around the table and pushing it right up against the door.

Backing away from the door, her back hit another table as she watched the herd pile up against the door of the classroom. Glancing around, she spotted windows and immediately ran over to them.

She hopped up onto the marble black counter and placed her hands onto the windows to push them up. But it was no use as they were the kind of windows that did not open. Rebecca slammed her hand onto the window as an act of frustration.

Rebecca turned her head at the sound of the door banging against the desk she had pushed up against it. She could see that some of the walkers had stuck their arms in the gap as they tried to push the door open.

Not wanting Carl to die, she knew she had to take drastic measures, even though this one would make a lot of noise and draw attention to her. But it was a risk she was willing to take.

For Carl.

Rebecca jumped down from the counter and backed up a little to make some room. She then whipped out her gun and fired a round at the window, shattering the glass into tiny pieces. She jumped back up onto the counter and crawled out of the window.

She roughly landed into a bush and groaned as she felt the prickly leaves scratch her arms. She collected her bag before sprinting off towards the parking lot.

Rebecca ducked behind several cars, not wanting to be seen by the walkers before finally making it back to the pick-up truck. She placed her bag in the back and quickly gets into the driver's seat. She let out a sigh of relief as she saw that the keys were still in the ignition as she placed her hand on it.

She looked up and saw Shane, limping towards the pick-up truck. He threw his bags into the back and a second later, he was sitting next to Rebecca in the passenger's side.

Rebecca glanced up, looking for Otis, but she couldn't find him. She looked over at Shane, confused. "Where's Otis?"

"Drive now!" Shane yelled as Rebecca turned the key in the ignition and started the pick-up truck. She backed out of the parking lot and sped down the road.
