~Day 63~
The group was just outside the C.D.C. still standing in the light from the open doorway.
"Daryl, you cover the back," Shane ordered as the group slowly walked into the C.D.C. with their weapons raised. Carl clung onto Rebecca as she had one arm wrapped around the boy while she had her crossbow raised up high in her other hand.
"Hello?" Rick called out as the group entered and looked around the empty lobby. "Hello?"
Rebecca heard the sound of a gun cocking and she spun around, Carl still clinging onto her as she looked up.
A man stood in a doorway, with a rifle in his hands. "Anybody infected?" he asked the group. "One of our group was. He didn't make it," Rick answered.
The man hesitantly took a few steps closer to the group. "Why are you here? What do you want?" "A chance," Rick said. "That's asking an awful lot these days." "I know."
The man eyed each group member, "You all submit to a blood test. That's the price of admission." "We can do that," Rick assured the man, who ended up lowering his weapon down.
"You got stuff to bring in, you do it now. Once this door close, it stays closed," The man informed them. The group all run through the doors and follow the man into an elevator.
The group was crowded together in an elevator. Rebecca stood in between Glenn and Daryl.
"Vi, seal the main entrance. Kill the power up here," the man spoke as the elevator doors closed and rattled.
"Rick Grimes," he held his hand out to the man to shake but the man just looked away. "Dr. Edwin Jenner."
The elevator hummed as everyone stood in silence.
"Do doctors always go around packing heat like that?" Daryl asked Jenner, breaking the silence. "There were plenty left lying around. I familiarized myself. But you look harmless enough," Jenner answered before looking down at Carl, "Expect you, I'll have to keep my eye on you." Carl smiled at Jenner's words.
When Jenner looked away, the smile on his face died. The elevator finally came to a stop. Out of the elevator, Jenner led them down a hallway.
"Are we underground?" Carol asked. "Are you claustrophobic?" Jenner asked her. "A little," she replied. "Try not to think about it."
They enter the large darkened space Jenner had been in earlier. "Vi, bring up the lights in the big room," he commanded. The lights lit up as Jenner looked over his shoulder at the group, "Welcome to Zone five."
"Where is everybody? The other doctors, the staff?" Rick asked him. "I'm it. It's just me here," Jenner answered. "What about the person you were speaking with? Vi?" asked Lori. "Vi, say hello to our guests. Tell them...welcome," Jenner said.
"Hello, guests. Welcome," a computerized female voice said.
"I'm all that's left. I'm sorry," Jenner told the group.

Jenner took Andrea's blood for a sample considering every else was done.
"What's the point? If we were infected, we'd all be running a fever," Andrea pointed out to Jenner.
"I've already broken every rule in the book letting you in here. Let me just at least be thorough," Jenner told her. The syringe clicked as Jenner pulled it out of Andrea's arm. "All done."
As she stood, Andrea felt like she was going to faint but was quickly caught by Jacqui, "Are you okay?" Andrea nodded faintly. Jacqui turned to Jenner, "She hasn't eaten in days. None of us have."
