[34]: The Suicide King

~Day 310~

Daryl glances around the area as the crowd's screams started to become deafening to him. He had to figure out a way to get out of here alive and to see Rebecca again.

The Governor circles Daryl and Merle around before stopping in front of the two brothers. He points his finger at Merle. "I asked you where your loyalties lie. You said here. Well, prove it. Prove it to us all. Brother against brother. Winner goes free. Fight to the death!" The crowd hollers at the Governor's speech. One of the men walks up to Daryl and rips the crossbow off his bag. Daryl seethes in anger as his weapon was taken away from him. 

Daryl then glances over at Merle, the two sharing a look. Merle raises his left arm to the crowd, silencing them. "Y'all know me. I'm gonna do whatever I got to do to prove-" he then turns around and punches Daryl in the gut. Daryl falls to the ground and doubles over in pain as the crowd cheers. "-That my loyalty is to this town!" 

Merle then kicks Daryl's side and he rolls over letting out low groans. The Governor looks over at his men and nods signaling them to bring out the walkers. One by one they brought out the walkers into the arena. 

Merle goes to grab Daryl when he strikes back, hitting him in the face. Daryl runs to Merle and instead of getting another hit at him, Merle retaliates by pushing him down to the ground and climbing on top of him. The two brothers' hands were now wrapped around each other's necks while the walkers that the men were holding, swiped their hands at them, trying to get their hands on the warm bodies.

"You really think this asshole's gonna let you go?" Daryl angrily asks his brother. "Just follow my lead, little brother," Merle tells him, under his breath. "We're getting out of this right now." Merle pulls Daryl up and the two immediately go back-to-back with their fists raised as they were prepared to fight against the walkers that now surrounded them. 

The Dixon brothers then go head-to-head which each walker, punching them in the face and the stomachs, pushing them away. Just as Daryl goes to strike a walker in the face, it abruptly falls to the ground and it's blood splatters onto the man that was holding him. 

The crowd starts screaming as more gunfire erupt towards them and at the lights above them, shattering the glass. Daryl hears a faint clatter and looks to his left to see a grenade. It explodes, emitting smoke. 

"Come on, little brother. Stay close!" Merle yells at Daryl as the two guide their way out of the smoke. Daryl sees a light up ahead. "Come on Merle!" he yells. They continue their way over to the light where Daryl then sees the same man that had taken his crossbow from it. The man fired an arrow from it and before he could reload it, Daryl punches the man in the back of the head, knocking him out. He then grabs his crossbow before he and Merle met up with Rick. The three making their escape.

~Day 311~

On the side of the road, Glenn sits on the ground while Michonne leans against their car. The two have been waiting all night for any sign of Rick, Maggie and Daryl but nothing yet.

"Glenn!" 

Glenn's head snaps up as he looks into the woods and sees Rick making his way. Glenn stands up and hobbles toward him since he was still in pain while Michonne follows after him.

"Rick. Oh, thank God," Glenn mutters as he sees Rick, Maggie and Daryl. Rick holds his hand out towards Glenn. "Now we got a problem here. I need you to back up." Glenn grew confused until he saw who was behind Daryl. Glenn draws out his weapons and points it at Merle. "What the hell is he doing here?"

"Hey, hey, hey!" Rick yells as Michonne charges toward him with his katana but he stops her. "Hey, put it down!" Daryl orders as Merle stands back. "He tried to kill me!" Michonne screams while Glenn yells out "If it wasn't for him-" "He helped us get out of there," Daryl tells him. "Yeah, right after he beat the shit out of you," Rick fires back at him.
