~Day 309~

The crying whimpers coming from the newly born baby girl echoed through the courtyard of the prison. Daryl helps Carl stand up before going over to Rick who was in a daze.

"Rick, you with me? Rick?" Daryl continues to try his best to communicate with Rick but he was too disorientated. Everyone else in the group lowered their heads as they stared at the concrete below them. They were silently paying their respects to the ones they had lost.

Lori, T-Dog and Rebecca.

It was a loss none of them have felt in a long time. It wasn't just one person that they lost, it was three.

"Let me see the baby."

Daryl turns around and sees that Carl was now holding the baby. He glances back at Rick to see that he was still in the same state as he was before. He glances back over to Carl and his new baby sister and knew that Rebecca would be kicking his ass right now if he didn't put his focus on them instead of mourning over her.

Pushing his emotions away, he stood up and walks over to Hershel who was now checking over the baby girl. "What are we gonna feed it? We got anything a baby can eat?

"The good news is she looks healthy. But she needs formula. And soon or she won't survive." Hershel tells Daryl who simply shakes his head. "Nope. No way. Not her. Rebecca would kick my ass if we lost her. We ain't losing nobody else," Daryl says as the mention of Rebecca hit the group hard again, especially Glenn who wipes his tears away. Daryl slings his crossbow across his back. "I'm going for a run."

"I'll back you up," Maggie speaks out immediately. "I'll go, too." Glenn says. Daryl nods. "Okay, think where we're going." He then turns to Beth and pulls her off to the side. "Kid just lost his mom and his best friend." He then looks over at Rick. "His dad ain't doing so hot." "I'l look out for him." Beth says as Daryl nods. He takes a step forward but Beth stops him. "How are you doing?" she asks him, thinking about Rebecca.

Daryl shakes his head. "I can't do this now. Right now, my focus is on keeping the baby alive," he tells her before walking back over to the group. "You two get the fence. Too many pile up, we got ourselves a problem. Glenn, Maggie, vamonos."

All of a sudden, the group hears heavy footsteps follow by the sound of metal scraping against the concrete ground. They look over to see that Rick has picked up an axe that was lying on the ground. He was walking away from the group and into the direction where Carl and Maggie had just came from.

"Rick!" Maggie calls out to him in a loud voice, trying to stop him but he was gone.

"Get the gate," Daryl tells the group as he walks off towards his motorcycle. "Come on, we're gonna lose the light!" Daryl yells as everyone in the group rush off to do their orders.

Glenn and Maggie follow after Daryl as they run towards his motorcycle. "There's a Piggly Wiggly on 85," Glenn tells Daryl as they continue jogging. Maggie shakes her head. "No, the baby section's been cleared. Lori asked me to keep an eye out. I haven't had much luck."

"Is there any place that hasn't been completely looted?" Daryl asks the two. "We saw signs for a shopping center just north of here." Glenn tells him. "Yeah, but there's too much debris on the road. A car will never get through there." Maggie tells him.

"I can take one of you," Daryl tells the two as he places his crossbow on the back of the motorcycle. "I'll go," Maggie says making Glenn shake his head as he pulls her off to the side to talk privately.

Daryl pulls his poncho on and glances over to Glenn and Maggie to see them kissing. He looks away and hops onto his motorcycle, waiting for them to finish. His mind instantly went to Rebecca and how he thought he would never get to see or be with her again. Feeling the tears coming, he shakes his head and blinks them back.
