"Eherm." Taeyeon sat up straight as she heard a sound of a man clearing his throat. She had yet again got lost of her thoughts about Tiffany and the question that was left unanswered three days ago. She lightly shook her head to get the unnecessary thoughts away before standing up and reaching for the hands of her enthusiastic girlfriend's family.
"Its nice to finally meet you Ms.Kim." Jan's father said as they all sat down around the table. Taeyeon was sitting in between Jan and her mom and across Jan's father which made it a little awkward for her, she'll have to endure the old man's stares all throughout lunch, and next to Jan was her younger brother and older sister.
They were all nice to her, although Jan's father was a bit scary, she figured its actually just how all fathers tends to act in front of their daughter's boyfriend, in her case, girlfriend. She also thought if her father would be like this once she introduce Jan to him. It made her smile a bit, knowing that her father's wish was for her to bring a man to their home and then she mentally laughed at how her father will react if she brings a girl instead.
"Baby, are you okay?" Jan asked, and Taeyeon whispered back, "Yeah, Im just thinking about something funny." Taeyeon admitted.
"I didnt really believed Jan when she said youre her girlfriend." Jan's older sister, Sushar started. "But here you are, in flesh and damn my sister is really lucky to have you."
"I think its the other way around." Taeyeon was about to smile when Jan's father cleared her throat again, and it made her darted her eyes back on her food, sighing to herself. She knew its going to be like this but for someone who hasnt had any girlfriend more so be introduced as a girl's girlfriend to their parents, was a bit nerve wrecking for her and she thinks that every second she's going to stay under Jan's father's eyes would be like a torture.
The lunch date was spent with questions, answers and a lot more questions thrown at Taeyeon and she did all her best to answer it all even though some were ridiculous questions like what kind of bed she sleeps on, her slipper's brand and so on. She didnt kept any information, specially when its Jan's father who's asking. The family was all in awe and impressed with her answers and Taeyeon was sure she's already got their approval, all except ofcourse Jan's father. In every love story there's always this one person who's against of the relationship and Taeyeon is motivated to change Jan's father bad impression of her, whatever that might be.
"Ms. Kim, Can we talk?" The seriousness of Jan's father was evident and it made Taeyeon gulped down her saliva, knowing exactly that what she was anticipating to happen will eventually take place now. She followed the man on the yard of the private restaurant the whole family had their reservation on.
"This is awkward I know. Its supposed to be a man to man talk but.." He paused and rephrased, "My wife should be doing this with you but since she's in favor of you, I'd take the role of being the bad guy." That made took a step backwards, the voice of the old man was really intimidating her. "I'd be frank with you, I dont think you and my daughter would last long."
"Excuse me, what did you say sir?" Taeyeon asked as if she didnt understood what Jan's father said but it was as loud and as clear of her heart pounding inside her ribcage. The serious tone of the man was making her really nervous.
"You and Jan will break up sooner or later."
"And how did you came up with the conclusion Mr. Saralee?" She asked back with firm tone and more serious face, the nervousness and fear she was feeling earlier suddenly had turn into annoyance. She didnt really like how Jan's father talk about their relationship like that.
"You dont love her Ms. Kim." It made her froze on her spot and she knows that if she's not going to react now, it means she already lost. "There's no spark in your eyes when you look at her.. I can tell. You like her, maybe, but thats not strong. Not even half of what my little girl feels for you and you.. Youre only going to break her heart."
Taeyeon sighed. That may be true, she may break Jan's heart but she's not going to let that happen. She wont hurt her and she will do everything in her ability not to break her girlfriend's heart. She'll do everything she can to avoid that to happen.
"I thought youre going to be the bad guy sir?"
"Huh?"
"Well you havent said you dont like me for your daughter or that I should leave her and let her live happily."
"I'd be lying if I say that I dont like you.. Youre the best daughter-in-law a father could ask for. Someone with a good background and a steady future ahead of you. But my daughter is only 19 and youre.."
Taeyeon cut him off, knowing exactly what he's going to say. "Our age gap isnt a problem Mr. Saralee."
"That may be true but can you.. If things comes to worst, are you going to choose my daughter over other things?" She knew the weight of the question. Its too soon to say, to soon to tell. Its not something she can say Yes to,not now atleast and Taeyeon knew Jan desrves everything, she's not just sure if Jan also deserves her. "Look Ms. Kim, my daughter.. she's serious with you. Ive never seen her put effort in any of her past relationship and neither strive for anything bigger than what she has now and I think its all because of you, She wants to be with the same level as you and Im sure she's thinking that she needs to double all her efforts to deserve you."
Taeyeon massaged her nose brdge, suddenly all the man's words became heavy for her. "But she doesnt need to do that. Im the one who dont deserve her. She's too good for me." She confessed.
"I like your honesty Ms. Kim but just like what I said, you and Jan wont last long." There's a finality on the old man's tone. "Unless you prove it to me otherwise."
Taeyeon knew Jan's father was giving her a chance, to prove her worth,to prove him wrong and thats exactly what she's going to do.
"So, are you going to break up with me now?"
Taeyeon's head snapped at the passenger seat, she was currently buckling her seatbelt on, "What?"
"Cause you know, you probably changed your mind now about me right after you talked to my dad?" Jan asked hesitantly. She know what her father was capable of, it wont be the first time he scared one of her partners away or some of the guys that wanted to ask her out, it only takes him 5 minutes of serious talk and that guy would practically begging to get out of Jan's life.
"Well, even if he told me that, I dont think breaking up with you would be one of my options, wait, actually I dont have any other option. Its either I prove myself to your dad or" Taeyeon paused and it made Jan feel a little bit nervous, "There's no OR." Taeyeon was about to flash a wide smile but Jan had already sealed her lips.
"What was that for?" Taeyeon asked breathlessly when Jan pulled away but kept their foreheads pressed together.
"For being so cute." Then Taeyeon pulled her for more passionate kisses.
