You had memorised this mans schedule down to the second he breathed - okay maybe not quite literally but close enough. So when you darted across the counter to the drawer that was always left open a tiny bit, you knew he was on his way home.
You slid into the drawer and grabbed the matchbox and put it on the counter before hoisting yourself back onto the counter. You grabbed the matchbox and began your journey back.
You had learnt the mans schedule off by heart just so you knew when you would be safe. Your entire life you had been told that if a human caught you, you would be killed on sight with no questions asked and quite frankly, you didn't want to die.
Your heart shot up to your mouth as you were still waking across the counter when the kitchen door swung open.
"So yeah that's how my day went-" The man's eyes locked onto your figure and your eyes widened before dropping the matchbox and sprinting towards where you came from. "I'll call you back later."
He shoved his phone into his pocket and before you could even have a glimmer of hope of escaping, his hand came down in front of you and you felt yourself be lifted up.
"No! I'm sorry! Please don't kill me!" You cried out, heart pounding.
"Kill you?" The man furrowed his eyebrows. "What on earth are you?"
"I-I'm sorry." Tears rolled down your cheeks, fright filling you from head to toe. "I'm so so sorry! I won't borrow anything again-"
"Calm down." He spoke softly, holding you in the palm of his one hand. "Why are you so afraid?"
"B-Because y-you're going to kill me and I-I don't want to die!" She hiccuped.
"I won't kill you." He continued to speak softly. "Just calm down okay?" You nodded and wiped your eyes with the back of your sleeves. "Where have you been living?"
"U-Underneath the floorboards." You hiccuped. "In the walls."
"And what are you?"
"M-My parents said we're called Borrowers, we only take what we need, and never enough to get caught." You whispered.
Jin stood with you in his hand and studied your petite form. "And what was the matchbox for?"
"A bed, mine recently broke and-"
"You can take it." He smiled softly, setting you down on the counter. "Is there anything else you need?"
"Maybe a bit of fabric, but it's fine!"
"Nonsense, wait here." He chuckled and left the kitchen. You sat on the edge of the counter, swinging your legs. He came back with a square of fabric the same height as you. "Is this any good?"
"T-That's fine-"
"And what's your name?" He smiled and folded it up and set it inside the matchbox.
"Y/N." You smiled softly up at him.
"It's a pleasure to meet you, you can call me Jin, okay?" He smiled softly. You nodded. "And if you need anything else, just let me know and I'll help you out whatever way I can, alright?"
Your eyes widened, tears shining in your eyes with happiness.
"Thank you!" You grinned brightly, tears tumbling down your cheeks. "Thank you so much Jin!"
"It's no problem, although you might want to move along. My friends are coming around soon." He smiled.
"Thank you!" You stood up and grabbed the matchbox with the fabric in before walking the final stretch to the entrance to your home. As you walked in you heard him chuckle softly.
"Strange, yet adorable. I think I could get used to living with her." You smiled at that and went about setting up your furniture as the doorbell rang.
