A/N: Warning this one shot includes mentions of death and war!
You and Namjoon had survived the chemical attack from the last war that had occurred. Everyone else around you had perished, family, friends, everyone.
Animals had mutated, and some were not safe to hunt and eat anymore, water was hard to come by, and whatever water you found was contaminated and needed treating. "How much treatment have we got left?" Namjoon looked across at you from the other side of the room. You weakly reached over and grabbed the bottle.
"It's empty." You whispered softly and his eyes widened. He tried to get up and you shook your head. "Conserve your energy..." You forced yourself to your feet and stumbled across to him. It had been days since you had last eaten, and a day since you had last drank.
"I'm sorry I couldn't protect you." Namjoon's voice was quiet in the groaning of the house in the chemical storm outside. You sat beside him, and rested your head on his shoulder. "I wish I could've protected you so we could've survived until we found somewhere more habitable."
"It's not your fault Namjoon." You barely got out the whisper, his arms wrapped around you. "None of us expected this, none of us expected to be wiped out in chemical warfare. We didn't even expect to survive this long."
Namjoon nodded and gently stroked your hair as you both relaxed. "I'm still sorry though. We never got a chance to do the things you wanted to do, we never got to see the world... I'm sorry."
You both sat in silence, the house groaning in the wind, under the rain. "I love you..." You forced your voice to be that little bit louder. Your mouth was incredibly dry, and you only wished that you had some water to moisten it. You looked up and saw Namjoon there with his eyes closed and a small smile on his face. "Regardless of what has happened, I will forever love you."
He didn't respond. You assumed he was sleeping and it suddenly dawned on you that he hadn't moved in a while and you raised your hand and hovered it under his nose to see if he was breathing. You felt your world crumble when that small huff of air didn't touch your hand. "Namjoon!" Your voice cracked, you prayed it was just starvation getting to you and the dehydration. But when you gently shook his shoulder and he just slumped a little more you knew you were left alone.
Your hands trembled as you cupped his cheeks and rested your forehead against his. "I'm sorry." You whimpered quietly. "I'm so sorry..." You kissed his forehead before resting against him. You were too dehydrated to even cry. The storm raged on outside as you rested against him. You just wished that death would come take you now instead of living out an agonisingly painful death, not only were you dehydrated and starving, but now you were alone.
You closed your eyes and began to sleep, exhaustion taking over.
"Guys there's someone in here!" A voice called through. The mask covered his mouth and the goggles protected his eyes from the dust and sand that was carried by the wind. "There's two of them!" The boy with the messy long dark brown hair and wide bambi eyes rushed towards the two cuddled together in the corner of the room. He noted how they held hands, and how they were holding each other almost as if they were protecting one another. He then also noticed how they didn't stir when he nudged them, and once he crouched down to their level he noticed how they weren't breathing and a lump formed in his throat. A shorter male ran in behind him and approached. They made eye contact and the male to first discover the two shook his head.
"I'm sorry Koo... I know you want to help them." The shorter male rested his hand on the boys back. "Let's take them out to the garden so the wildlife can take them?" It became a silent agreement and they took one of the bodies each and carried them to the front of the house and left them by the border of the forested area. The other boy watched them.
"We were too late?" He asked quietly, the shorter male nodded and the man sighed and came over and patted the youngest's back. "I'm sorry..."
"It's fine. It happens. They probably didn't realise that they weren't the only two out here surviving it." He whispered. "We should head off before the next storm comes in..." The boys nodded, bowing their head at the deceased couple in front of them before turning and jogging off in the direction they were heading before checking the house.
