I stood there letting the warm water run down my face, as I ran my fingers through my hair. I closed the shower door, turning the heat up, feeling the fluid drip down my body and onto the tiles below. I sighed when the water hit beneath my eyes; they were swollen, red and puffy. It stung when I rubbed my hands over them.

I heard the lock click, and the front door of my apartment open. I panicked, knowing that Jesse could tell when I had been crying. I was surprised, not expecting him home until the next day. I heard him drop his bag before sliding the door of the bathroom open.

He lay against the doorframe, covered in dirt and blood. He looked tired.

'Hey' he said, a small smile dancing upon his lips.

'Hey' I sniffed, forcing a smile and holding my hand against the shower glass separating me from him.

Jesse reached his hand out and met mine before removing his boots and clothes, kicking them into the corner. He opened the shower door before moving in behind me. He began massaging my shoulders with his hands. Fortunately, his mechanical arm was waterproof.

'That feels good Jesse' I whispered softly, before I felt his thumb on my chin, pulling my head to the side, kissing me from behind.

He opened his eyes and frowned down at me, moving his thumb up and under my eyes. I winced from the pain.

Sweetheart, have you been crying again?' He said softly.

'What? No, I got some shampoo in my eyes' I lied, trying to smile but I felt my lip quiver.

'Darlin, if that were the case, where's the bottle?' Jesse sighed, letting go of my face.

'I'm sorry Jesse' I said turning and hugging him, pulling him close.

'I just don't understand why you gotta lie to me. I'm your partner' Jesse said pulling me against him, holding me tight.

'I just don't wanna worry you' I said, blinking back the tears, trying to keep my composure.

'I worry more when you get like this honey. I know we've been avoiding talking about what happened the night we met but...' Jesse started before I interrupted him.

'Jesse, I don't know if I can talk about what happened to me. It would make you sick to your stomach. I don't know if you'd even want me after...' I mumbled, not being able to meet his eyes, instead watching the water drip down the drain.

'You know that's crazy talk' He said, rubbing the back of my head with his fingers.

'Okay...' I said biting my lip before pulling away. I sat down in the shower, with him sitting down opposite me. He took my feet that were outstretched next to him and placed them on his thigh, massaging them tenderly.

I closed my eyes and suddenly I was there again. I could smell the smoke polluting the fresh air, as I made my way home after a friend's engagement party. They all insisted I catch a cab, but I wanted to walk. I walked along the streets, autumn leaves falling down, amber, ruby and gold surrounding me.

I hummed nervously, scared of the dark. I hadn't realized how late it had gotten. I looked up at the stars, calming me down before slowly crossing the road. I looked in front of me just in time, nearly walking into the window of a pub. I analyzed myself in the reflection of the glass window. I looked good. A slimming red dress, tight against my skin. It was a little revealing but still screamed classy and elegant. My matching red lips and high heels accompanying me, my hair tied back into a high pony tail and a black purse hung around my shoulders.
