I was walking home in the early hours of December 24th after finishing my shift. I bartended late nights normally and slept most days. I didn't care for the holiday season. I had spent Christmas alone for several years now. I felt as if I was stuck in a rut. Nothing excited me, and I had no passion. I rarely saw my family and friends, hating the thought of social interaction. I had always been quite introverted and anti-social. I despised the women who drunkenly flirted with me during my shift, indiscreetly leaving their numbers on the table top.
I never called them though, simply throwing their desperate gesture away. It meant nothing to me. I sighed, running my fingers through my hair. It was a cold evening. I rubbed my shoulders trying to stay warm and thought of home. I needed a drink after the night I'd had. This one blonde would not stop pestering me. She took my disinterest, as a challenge and pulled every trick she could think of out of the book.
'Where's your holiday spirit?' she begged, frustrated I was resisting her advances.
I rolled my eyes, wiping down the bar, praying the night would soon end.
As a last resort, she held a small branch of mistletoe over her head, puckering her red lips.
'Come on then, you have to now' she smirked, thinking she had outwitted me.
'Sorry sweetheart, I don't exactly follow holiday tradition' I hissed back, moving away, trying to find another customer to serve.
Eventually she got the message and left me alone, boldly suggesting to her intoxicated friends that I was waiting until marriage. It's not that I didn't enjoy sex, I just didn't enjoy it with women. However, no man had ever caught my attention for long. I found them to be replaceable. I was always the dominant one and I enjoyed having them do exactly what I said, but I eventually grew tired and bored of their compliance.
I turned my head, as I walked around a corner, and for a moment, I swore I saw a flash of blue. I felt the atmosphere change, as my heart rate increased. I felt a tightness in my chest, as if I couldn't breathe. I couldn't tell whether I was scared or excited. I stopped walking, trying to scan the surroundings to catch a glimpse of this mysterious figure, but the street lights were too dim for me to see.
I could hear staggered breathing, but I couldn't tell which direction it was coming from. I heard footsteps behind me.
I froze, all the hairs on my body standing up. I felt a cold presence behind me and I couldn't determine whether I should embrace it or fear it.
I felt the figure behind me, as a shiver ran down my spine. I felt him step towards me, placing his frosty fingers on my arm. I held my breath, looking down at the sharp claws lightly tugging at my skin. I expected them to tear me to pieces, but instead they massaged my skin. I turned to face the presence, unsure of what to expect...
He stood before me, covered head to toe in black with a haunting blue glow surrounding him. He pulled at his mask, removing it, and I looked into his black eyes.
