Part Twenty-Eight: Mercy x Female Reader - Heroine

Rating: MODERATE

This is a REQUESTED STORY. (Requested by Ninjette-xoxo2)

Author's Note: Firstly, 'Ninjette-xoxo2' is actually my best friend, who made an account as a joke to try and annoy me. I want to point out that I would not follow myself, as I am not that arrogant. Additionally, this is the first time I've included a time lapse, and I hope I have executed it correctly and appropriately. Also, as a side note, if you read my first Mercy x Reader story, I've added a sneaky reference to this story, as it is technically a continuation of that relationship. Let me know in the comments if you notice that sneaky allusion! Regarding content, Angela has been distancing herself more and more from your relationship, and after tragedy strikes, will that be the final nail in your coffin or will Angela realise the errors of her ways and win you back before it's too late?

You lit the two candles on the dining room table, the final touches, complementing your romantic setting you had created for her. You took the roasted turkey out of the oven, knowing that she would be home soon. You smiled, hoping this would help reignite your flame with her. You had missed her terribly.

Angela Ziegler was the most compassionate and generous person you had ever met, dedicating her life to helping those who were critically injured. She was a life saver and you loved her for this. She was a beautiful spirit, but something had happened to her. She became distant from you and your relationship. She was angrier and isolated herself from all those she cared about, including you.

She was hostile, rarely speaking to you. Conversations were forced and strained. It was if a stranger was laying there next to you in your bed. You heard her crying through the night, and when you went to comfort her, she pushed you away. All you wanted was to look after her and be her heroine, just as she was to other people. However, Angela refused to let you inside of her head. You knew it would be pointless to push her, knowing it would cause her to drift further away, but it was killing you. You wished you understood.

You sighed, as you went through your bedroom drawer, rummaging through your dresser until you found it. You opened the small box, revealing the stunning white-gold engagement ring you had purchased for her months ago. You frowned, unsure of whether you still wanted to marry her. You adored the bright, bubbly and beautiful person you had met all those years ago, but she was fading from you. You couldn't save someone from drowning if they were going to drag you down into the murky depths with them.

Your thoughts were interrupted, as you heard the phone ring. You knew. You didn't want to answer it, wishing to remain ignorant. You knew she wasn't coming.

'Hello?' you answered, trying to remain optimistic, hoping she was just calling to inform you that she was going to be late.

'I'm sorry my love, I'm working late' she said quickly.

'You knew how important tonight was for me' you spat out, anger washing over your body.

'I'm sorry. I promise I'll make it up to you. How about we...' Angela pleaded before the line went dead. You had hung up on her. You didn't want to hear anymore.

You wandered around the house you shared, before popping the bottle of champagne you had bought to celebrate with her.

'Her favourite...' you thought, before shaking the thought of her out of your mind.
