Sean and I had been kicking it faithfully for a while now. We were officially dating—just each other. But if I'm being honest, he was a little too jealous, kind of controlling too. He always said it was because he was "protective of me." Whatever that meant.
On the other hand, Dave and I had finally made up.
Flashback
I was on the phone with him when it happened.
"I'm coming over," Dave said bluntly. "So you better be there."
"For what?" I snapped. "We not even cool."
"Be there in a second."
Click. He hung up.
Before I knew it, he was walking through my door.
"What you want, Dave?" I asked, arms crossed.
"For us to stop acting stupid. You my best friend," he said. "We haven't been cool for weeks. I miss you, alright? I'm sorry for what I said."
I sighed. "Alright, I accept your apology. I missed you too. Let's get some food and watch TV."
He laughed. "Bet."
Flashback over
I was doing one of my client's hair—a slick ponytail—when Sean started calling. I had one AirPod in.
"Hello?" I answered.
"Why you ain't answer last night?" Sean barked.
"I was talking to Dave."
"You better answer my call and hang up on him next time."
"Sean, relax. It's not that deep."
"Fuck you mean it ain't that deep? Yeah, aight. Bye."
He hung up in my face. I hated when he did that.
My client, Mia, looked at me sideways. "I'm sorry, girl... did you say Sean?"
"Yeah, why?" I asked, confused.
"Sean Davis?"
"Yeah, that's him."
She blinked. "I thought he was single. He was at the club last night all over this one bitch."
I don't do the he-said-she-said thing. I go straight to the source. And Sean swore to me he ain't go out last night.
"Nah, he's not single," I told her as I finished her ponytail. "But girl, you're all done."
She handed me forty-five dollars and I walked her out. As soon as she left, I FaceTimed Sean.
"What, Tia?" he answered dryly.
"Don't 'what Tia' me. Stop hanging up in my fuckin' face."
"You better watch who you talkin' to. I'm pulling up. Bye."
Click.
Ughhh. He was so irritating.
A few minutes later, I opened the door. "Where were you last night?"
"Where I told you I was gon' be," he said, brushing past me.
"Exactly. So why weren't you there?"
He just laughed and pulled me into him. "Come here. Stop all that."
"I'm not playin'. You were at the club with some bitch."
"I wasn't with no bitch. I was at home, callin' your phone."
