Tia – POV
I was sleeping so good, curled up under my blanket, until I heard Corey calling my name.
"I'm up, I'm up," I mumbled, still halfway dreaming.
"Kairi sayin' she don't feel good," he said from the other side of the door.
"I'm coming," I replied, already kicking off the covers.
I had already showered earlier—just laid down for a quick nap—so I threw on some sweats and a t-shirt and headed straight to check on my baby.
"Come here, baby. What's wrong?" I asked as soon as I saw her little face.
"I don't feel nice," she said, her bottom lip poked out.
"Awww, mommy's here, okay?" I whispered, scooping her up as she wrapped her arms tight around my neck and laid her head down.
I ran her a warm bath and got her dressed in some soft pajamas, then checked her temperature—100.1. My heart tightened a little.
"Your temperature's high, baby... and you got a runny nose. Might be a little cold, lil' lady," I said softly. "Let's call Daddy."
I picked up the phone and dialed Dave.
"Pause that," he answered. "Hey, mamas."
"Hey, boo bear. Baby not feeling good."
"What's wrong with her?" he asked immediately.
"She got a fever and a runny nose."
"Are we going to the doctor?"
"Nah, I still got her medicine from last time. I'm about to give her some soup, just wanted to let you know."
"Okay, mama. I'm on my way."
"Okay, boo. See you soon."
Once we hung up, I went to the kitchen with Kairi still clinging to me. She wouldn't let me put her down, so I held her while stirring soup with one hand. After giving her the medicine and feeding her, I poured a little orange juice and sat down with her cuddled into me.
"What you wanna watch?" I asked as she relaxed against my chest.
"Frozen 2," she mumbled.
I turned it on, and not even twenty minutes into the movie, she was knocked out cold.
I carried her to her bed and tucked her in gently, then went downstairs to start dinner. Just as I finished setting everything on the table, I heard the front door open.
"Hey, bear," I said.
"Hey, mamas," Dave replied, walking over and pulling me into a hug. He kissed me slowly. "You lookin' good."
"You need some rest. Did you finish?" I asked, pulling back a little to look at him.
"Almost. What time you lay her down?"
"Just now."
"I'm bout to go check on her."
I nodded as he headed upstairs, then turned back to the food. Right on cue, Bully and Brandy walked through the front door.
"I'm tired of being pregnant!" Brandy groaned. "I don't want fast food, and I don't wanna cook."
"Please tell me you cooked, sis," Bully added, dramatic as always.
"Well hello to y'all too," I said, laughing. "The food's on the table."
"Yesss, best friend. This reason number 235 why I love you!" Brandy said, practically skipping to the kitchen.
