I woke up to my alarm blaring and no sign of Dave. Typical. I hopped in the shower, handled my hygiene, threw on a Gucci sweatsuit, and got myself ready for the day. I had two clients—one getting a silk press, the other a lace front—so it shouldn't take too long.
As I was finishing up, my phone lit up. Incoming call: Ki.
"Hey girl," I answered, still adjusting my hoodie.
"What you doing?" Ki asked.
"Getting ready for this client."
"Okay, I'm on my way over. Have you eaten?"
"Not yet."
"Alright, I'm bringing you something. Be there soon."
"Thanks, my love. See you in a minute."
Ki is over here at least twice a week. That girl hates being alone. She's been like that for as long as I've known her. Most times we just chill, go shopping, or lay up watching movies.
She walked in a little annoyed. "Girl, the line at Coney was so long. They irritating."
"They always are," I laughed. "Like it's the only place in Cali."
She kicked off her shoes, and we sat down to eat.
"So," Ki said between bites, "Chris call himself being mad at me."
"For what?"
"He said I need to get my mouth in check, that he's not about to keep arguing over dumb shit. Blah, blah."
I shook my head. "You over there getting on that man's nerves."
Ki laughed. "He getting on mine. I don't mean to catch attitudes."
"But you do," I said, side-eyeing her. "You know that's your problem, yet you still do it."
"I know, I know, but he could still bare with me. He hasn't talked to me in like three days."
"Call him then, stubborn."
"Alright, hold on."
She FaceTimed him.
"Wassup," Chris answered dryly.
"Hey, I miss you," she said, trying to soften her tone.
"Oh, you do? Thought you had an attitude."
"Chris, that was three days ago!"
"I don't care. I'm tired of it."
"Where you at?"
"Handling business."
"Well, are you coming over tonight?"
"What I tell you?"
"Chris, do not start."
"Nah, you don't start. What did I say?"
She sighed. "That you won't be seeing me until I get my act together, that you don't reward unchanged behavior."
Oop. Chris really threw that quote back at her.
"Exactly," he said. "So don't get to acting."
"But I have changed, baby."
"Ki..."
"Chris, okay, how about you lay the pipe and then don't talk to me for however long you want?"
He burst out laughing. "You tryna use me for the pipe?"
"No, I just need some."
"We'll discuss that later. I gotta go."
