Dave POV

I dragged Tia into the booth with me and kept firing. I'll be damned if they kill me and my wife today.

She grabbed at me and cried out, "Fuuuuck, David!"

"Hey, look at me, baby!" I shouted, trying to focus.

I looked down and saw the blood—two bullets in her stomach. My mind went blank. Tears fell before I could stop them. I couldn't think, couldn't breathe.

Security finally burst in, and the gunfire stopped.

"Tia, you gotta stay woke. You can't close your eyes. Somebody call a fucking ambulance!"

I tried everything to stop the bleeding, pressing down hard, but nothing worked.

"D...ave," she whispered.

"Shh, baby. You're okay. I'm not gonna let you die. You're fine, mamas. I promise."

"Tell my babies I love them," she whispered.

"Tia, stop talking like that. You're gonna make it. It's not your time. We're not done yet."

"I love you, David."

Her eyes closed.

"No! Fuck! Tia, don't do this shit to me!"

I started CPR, pushing hard.

"1-2-3-4-5-6-7-8... come on, Tia... 9-10-11-12-13-14... breathe baby, breathe... 15-16-17-18-19-20..."

I gave her mouth-to-mouth, but there was nothing.

The ambulance finally rushed in.

"Let us take over, sir," someone said. "We got it from here."

I couldn't move. I was frozen. So they worked around me.

"Hey, I'm Karen, let me assist you," the EMT said gently.

I looked up at her, my eyes soaked. I slowly let go, and she took over CPR.

"Two gunshot wounds. No breathing," she called out.

They wrapped her wounds and applied pressure.

"Faint pulse. Let's go."

They got her on the stretcher, machines hooked up everywhere.

"You're the husband?" Karen asked.

I nodded.

"Ride with us."

I grabbed Tia's hand and climbed in.

"God, I'm begging you. Please get her out of this. I don't care about anything else. If she doesn't make it, I'm not gonna be the same. Please. I need her. She's everything. My girls need their mommy."

Karen's voice cut through. "We're losing her!"

She started CPR again, then shocked her.

"Tia, please," I begged.

Another shock.

We arrived at the hospital.

"She's coded twice already," Karen shouted. "GSWs to the stomach and chest. Faint pulse."

"Let's not lose her again," the doctor said.

They pushed her through the ER doors. I tried to follow.

"You can't go back there, sir."

"Fuck that, that's my wife!" I yelled. "She needs me!"

"No, I'm sorry. You can't."
