Tia – POV

"Okay, if the shipment's not right, send them bitches back. Come on now, Tiff!" I snapped, pacing the salon floor.

Tiff, my receptionist, looked like she was about to cry. "I'm sorry, boss lady..."

"Get the shit right," I huffed, turning on my heels.

Everything was getting on my damn nerves lately. I stormed back into my office, heels clicking against the floor, head pounding. I could really use a drink—a strong one—but of course, that wasn't an option right now.

I dropped down into my chair and exhaled hard. The pressure was on me from every direction—running a business, dealing with Dave's baby mama, trying to take care of Kairi like she was my own, and now Grandma Mae being distant 'cause we hadn't been talking like we used to. Then on top of all that, Dave was running around doing shows and interviews and barely home.

I grabbed my phone and hit call.

"Finally," Grandma Mae answered.

"I'm sorry, Grandma," I said, sighing. "Been a little busy."

"Yeah, I know," she replied with that 'I told you so' tone. "You need to give your body a rest. I know it's tough, but you gon' have enough stressing to do when that baby come. Right now, relax."

"I'm trying," I mumbled. "Easier said than done."

"How you know that when you ain't even tried, child?"

"I will. Soon as I get everything taken care of at the shop."

"Hire an assistant, baby."

"Then I gotta set up interviews—"

"Child, just do it! The rest will follow. And get some praying going on while you at it."

"I do every night, Grandma."

"Do it during things, girl. Not just when you got time—make time."

"Okay, I will. How are you?"

"Blessed and highly favored."

"That's good. I love you."

"I love you too. Talk to you later."

"You didn't even ask about Dave."

"I talked to him earlier, child."

"Oh. Okay. Bye, Grandma."

"Bye, baby."

Call ended.

I sat there for a moment, phone still in my hand, just staring at the black screen. Now I felt even worse. Dave talked to my grandma before I did. That stung a little.

Incoming FaceTime: Baby.

The screen lit up with Dave's name. My heart fluttered the tiniest bit as I slid my finger across to answer.

The call connected.
