Prom Day
Tia's POV
I was sitting in the chair, getting my hair done, makeup next. Prom night. I had already gotten my nails, brows, and lashes done last night—check, check, check. Everything was coming together.
"Alright, Tia," Kelly called out from the other room, "I just laid your dress out. You got in the shower before your hair, right?"
"Yeah, Ma. I did it a minute ago," I replied, trying not to move too much while Ki curled the last section of my hair.
"Okay. Dave just got here."
My heart skipped.
"Alright, Ma."
I had said yes to going to prom with Dave even though he had already graduated last year. Guys from school asked me—some cute, some cool, but none of them made me feel like he did. I knew I'd have the best time with him.
When everything was finally done, I slipped into my dress and carefully walked down the stairwell. There he was. Dave. Standing at the bottom looking so damn good in his all-black tux. The way his eyes lit up when he saw me made everything worth it.
People around us started gushing, "Aww," and, "You look beautiful."
"You look so beautiful, baby," Dave said, his voice low and full of pride.
"Thank you," I said, smiling. "You look so handsome."
The cameras didn't stop flashing. I swear we took a million and one pictures, but I loved every minute of it. My dad, Terry, gave us a nod as we walked toward the car.
"Y'all be safe," he said.
"We will, Daddy," I called back.
We slid into a sleek, all-black Audi. The vibe was everything.
"You look so damn fine," Dave said, glancing at me from the driver's seat.
I laughed. "Oh, you couldn't say that at the house, huh?"
"I could've, but I wanted it between me and you. I like seeing that pretty ass blush."
Boy, he knew just what to say. And yeah, I blushed harder.
We pulled up to the venue, met up with Brandy and Ki, and immediately started snapping more pictures.
"Hey! This my song," Brandy sang out, starting to dance.
Just got paid, Friday night
Party huntin', feelin' right...
I laughed. "Omg, that's a classic!"
"A freaking classic," Ki echoed.
Brandy smirked. "You and Dave look cute together."
"They do," Ki agreed.
"Neither one of y'all better start," I warned playfully.
Then my favorite slow song came on.
"Come here," Dave said, tugging me gently to the dance floor.
He placed his hands on the small of my back. I draped my arms around his neck as the music wrapped around us.
If this world were mine
I'd place at your feet
All that I own, you've been so good to me...
I stared up into his eyes. He looked back with that same love, that same fire. I truly loved him. He was my best friend, my peace, and everything I didn't know I needed.
