Dave – POV
I'd been in the studio all night, locked in, trying to finish this song. The beat kept pulling me back in, and I couldn't let it go until it was perfect.
My phone buzzed. Incoming call – Wife.
I grabbed it, already smiling.
"Hey, mamas."
"When you coming home?" Tia asked softly.
"I don't know yet. I'm tryna finish these songs up."
She paused, then pushed, "Give me a time frame."
"I don't wanna give you one, baby, then not make it back."
"But I miss you, Bear," she said, voice low. "I haven't seen you all day."
I sighed, my chest tightening a little. "And I miss you too."
"Then come home."
"I can't, Tia. Daddy working."
"I know, Dave... ughhh."
I could hear her pouting through the phone.
I laughed a little. "Alright, alright. Give me one to two hours, tops. Can you do that for me?"
She sighed. "Yes, okay. I'll see you soon, baby."
I knew she was smiling on the other end.
"See you soon. I love you."
"I love you too."
Call ended.
I got back to it. Polished the first song. Started on the second.
"This shit so hard, East," Clips said, bopping his head.
"Man, I'm tryna fuck the city up with this one," I said, focused on the mix.
"This definitely about to do that."
I got so caught up that I didn't realize two and a half hours had passed since I talked to Tia.
I leaned back, rubbing my eyes. "Ay, Clips—we gotta finish up tomorrow."
"Bet. I know you gotta get home."
I laughed. "You know something."
We packed up, locked the studio, and headed out.
Once I slid into my Benz, I called Tia.
No answer.
She probably sleeping.
I tried one more time—straight to voicemail.
I tightened my grip on the wheel and pulled off, speeding just a little. I missed my baby.
I punched the code into the gate, eased through, and curved around our circle driveway. Parked right in the front.
I got out, locked the door behind me, and walked up to the front entrance.
Once inside, I sat my keys down on the table, kicked off my shoes, and noticed Kairi's little sneakers sitting next to Corey's. That brought a smile to my face.
"Tia!" I called out.
No answer.
I headed into the kitchen, washed my hands real quick, dried them on a towel.
"Where this girl at, moe..." I mumbled, looking around.
"Mamas!" I called out again, this time louder.
