I woke up to scratching at the door. My dog was already on ten.

"Blue, chill the fuck out," I mumbled, voice thick with sleep. "I'm coming."

Dragged myself up, hit the bathroom, brushed my teeth, handled the basics. Took him outside so he could do what he needed to do. I just got him—a blue pitbull, few days ago. Cool little dude. Real protective already.

Let him back in, and right on cue, my phone rang.

Bully.

"Yo," I answered, still halfway wiping sleep from my face.

"You ain't cranky today," he said, like it was a surprise.

"Yeah, nigga, I ain't had no pussy in a minute."

"Stop being a pussy and ride with me somewhere."

I laughed. "Aight, scoop me."

"As always."

Call ended.

I threw on a Gucci fit, grabbed my Timberlands. Never know what Bully got planned. Could be business. Could be bullshit. Probably both.

Before he pulled up, I hit FaceTime.

Tia answered with that morning voice that always get me weak. "Hey baby."

"Hey mama, what you doing?"

"Nothing, just getting up. What you doing?"

"About to ride with Bull."

"Mhm. Don't be on no shit."

"When do I ever?" I smirked. "When you coming back?"

"Day after tomorrow. You already know this."

"Ughhh, cut that shit short."

"She need me to do her hair—crazy laughing."

"I need you too, baby."

"Aww, mama gon' be home soon."

"Daddy want her here now."

"You don't want me to get my coins?"

"I do. But you got enough coins already."

She laughed. "I love you. Have you checked on Kim?"

"I love you too. Yeah, I took her food yesterday."

"You're such an amazing man. What Corey and Blue doing?"

"You're an amazing woman. Corey still sleep—'bout to wake him up for work. Blue running around somewhere."

"He don't need to be working."

"Yes he do. He not about to be out here getting in trouble."

"Put him in basketball then, babe."

I shook my head. "Not doing this with you right now. Enjoy yo trip."

"You serious?"

"You know I am."

"Alright... bye."

"Stop playing with me."

"I love you. Talk to you later."

"I love you too."

Call ended.

When I walked from the kitchen, Bully was on my couch.

"Bully, that key is for emergencies, ugly."

"This is one. I'm ugly."

"Yeah, aight. Corey!"
