Tom

It had been two years since Diana and I had started going out and I'm ashamed to say we hadn't told Aleasha yet. It's not that we didn't want to - Aleasha was our best friend and was normally the first person we told about anything - but we'd just never gotten round to it. We weren't sure what to say and kept putting it off, but of course the longer we left it the harder it got and before we knew it we'd been going out in secret for two years. We knew we'd have to tell her sooner or later but we just didn't know how. And we definitely should have.

We'd all arranged to meet at the park one evening and had planned to go for a walk afterwards and get some fish and chips for dinner. I was first and Diana arrived next so we went off behind a tree. Not to do anything much of course - it was a highly public place, Aleasha wouldn't be long and we still underage (only by a few months though) - but we wanted some privacy still. We started kissing and after a couple of minutes we just heard someone cough. We turned around and saw Aleasha standing there, arms crossed.

"Want to explain what's going on?" She said, voice tight as if she were trying not to cry.

"Um..." Diana began. In movies, this was normally the bit where the other one came up with something genius to say and got them both out of trouble. I had nothing.

"Because it looks like my two best friends are going out and not telling me about it." We were both silent. "Care to tell me how long has this been going on for?" She asked, tears now threatening to spill out.

"A couple of years." I mumbled.

"A couple of years? You've been seeing each other for two years and it didn't cross your mind to tell your best friend?" She exclaimed, before running off, tears streaming down her face.
