Alice's POV
I didn't wanted to tell him this at all but I couldn't imagine how he would react to the fact that I will leave him as soon as we go back in America. I really wanted to enjoy our last summer together without worrying.
"Yeah. I see. Well, what now?" Philip asked.
"I don't know. Can we just enjoy to the maximum the last weeks of summer together? And we'll see about universities later?" I asked quietly.
"Anything that will make you happy. I love you." Philip said but he seemed quite sad.
"Philip...please. It's okay. Don't be upset about it. It's not like I'm going to live an ocean away. We can still write each other letters. Remember? We did that a few years ago and it worked." I assured him trying to hide my sadness as well.
"I know but before we were best friends, now you're my girlfriend and the next thing I know is that you would become my...wife. I don't know how I could ever live without having you near me." He said disappointed.
I held his hands and we sat down.
"I know, it's going to be hard but it's not the end. It's the beginning to a new chapter. And I can always come in New York as well. And you can come visit me in Massachusetts." I said.
He just nodded and sighed.
"What should we do today?" he asked.
"I feel somehow mentally tired." I said quietly.
He frowned then put his hand on my shoulder. He looked at me with sympathy then hugged me.
"Let's go get some fresh air." he said cheering me up.
We went to the city center and walked through the streets. We stopped in a few shops. We finally took a break and sat down on a bench at the nearest park.
Philip then suddenly reached out for something in his pocket then handed it to me.
It was a box wrapped in brown paper and tied up with strings.
"Happy friendship anniversary." He whispered and smiled at me.
I opened the packaging to reveal a beautiful diary made out of leather embellished with many precious stones. It was very beautiful.
"Philip...this is beautiful!" I said completely blinded.
"Go to the first page." He said smiling.
I opened the first page and found a poem he wrote for me. It was very cute and adorable.
"I love you so much, I'm so lucky to have you in my life, Pip." I said and hugged him.
"I love you even more!" He said and kissed my cheek.
We held hands the most of the time and walked the streets together. It was sundown so we decided to go home when Philip suddenly lifted me and started to run.
"Philip! What are you doing?!" I screamed at him confused.
"Running away with the love of my life!" he replied laughing.
'What an idiot—my idiot.' I thought to myself.
After a few minutes, he finally put me down.
We were on a hill full of flowers. We sat down on the grass and watched the sunset.
"Alice?" Philip asked.
"What is it, Pip?" I demanded.
"Would you ever stop loving me at some point if we don't see each other that much anymore when we will—you know, go to college?" he asked in hesitation.
