i wake on my side.
two arms wrapped tightly around my torso, underneath my t-shirt.
and normally i'd hate that.
but with him.
everything is different.
the sun is shining brightly through the sheer beige curtains that drape over his windows and i just feel warm.
i feel his lips against the back of my neck, signaling that he's awake as well.
"good morning," i smile and turn to face him.
he smiles back, "good morning, hyung."
"you're cute, you know. you're hairs all messy and it's adorable." i say stroking a few strands of hair away from his eyes.
his smile spreads wider, saying thank you without using his words.
he sits up and lifts his arms to stretch, i do the same.
he yawns and lets his arms drop.
"so. what do you want to do today?" he asks.
"let's go out and get some food, then we can walk around the shops downtown. sound good?"
"min yoongi, are you- are you asking me on a... date?!"
i feel my cheeks get warm, but i try to play it off.
be blunt.
gosh why does he make me so nervous?
"i never said that. you chose to understand it that way. which means technically... technically... you're the one asking me."
"oh hush."
he ruffles my hair and stands up from his bed, pressing his fingers into his spine to pop his back.
"be easy with your muscles after sleeping so long. don't get hurt." i say, standing up too.
i pull on my coat and slip my shoes over my toes as he smiles and says, "see i told you. you care so much more than you'd like to believe,"
i turn to him.
"yep. you were right hoseok." i smile. "about so much."
he kisses my forehead and begins walking me to the front door.
"go get ready now. lets meet here at-" he checks his watch, "oh goodness it's nearly one o'clock!"
the way he says oh goodness makes my stomach do flips.
"say two?" i ask, trying not to show him how giddy i was.
"two is good." he says, and begins leaning in to kiss me again.
"hoseok do you- oh sorry didn't realize you had company."
we both turn towards the voice.
it's a different guy than last night.
"namjoon, good morning! this is my-" he drags 'my' on for a second trying to come up with a label for me. "this is min yoongi." he finally finishes.
"pleasure to meet you hyung," i bow.
hoseok laughs.
"he's younger than you, yoongi."
"really? you're really tall, my apologies."
he laughs too.
"no worries. i'm namjoon."
i shake his hand.
"so yoongi what are your intentions with my hoseok?"
"OHkay namjoon that's enough." hoseok tries to push me out, but if this giant of a man is protective of hoseok, he has the right to be.
and i want him to know that i have nothing planned to hurt the precious angel thats trying his hardest to force me out of the door.
"i intend to keep him happy, no matter what happens to me. i intend to help him when he needs it. hug him when he wants it. and be there for him no matter the circumstances. i understand your need to protect him. and i will protect him too."
namjoon looks at hoseok.
"i approve of him."
hobi nervously laughed, pressing his left hand to the back of his neck.
"i should get going then," i say and kiss his cheek. "i will pick you up at two."
the two cock their head at me and namjoon tries to surpress laughs.
"okay yoongi bye bye then."
hobi hurriedly tries to get me out of the house and shuts the door abruptly.
then from the other side of the door i hear namjoon howling.
"he's going to pick you up! HE THINKS HE'S DOMINANT! that's amazing!"
"shut up! he'll learn soon."
my cheeks go hot against the cold air.
he'll learn soon.
•••
three knocks and the door is opened.
fuck.
fuck.
he wears a white button down with black leather pants.
i look down at what i'm wearing.
oh how i despise myself.
so plain.
a white t-shirt, black pants, a puffy black coat, and my hat of course.
"you look great," i smile, trying to not overthink about what he was thinking.
"as do you, so adorable."
i've gotten a bit irritable in this past hour considering i haven't smoked, but he makes it a little better.
"you won't be cold?" i ask as he steps out without a coat.
"oh you're right, i will be right back."
he steps inside again, but before the door closes, someone catches it.
the man from last night.
jin, if i remember correctly.
"hey." he says.
"hi. i'm-"
"yoongi. i know. namjoon told me about you, and hobi basically won't shut up about this date. he's very excited."
"well that's good," i say as hobi approaches, coat in hand.
he stands behind jin to let us talk. "i'm very excited as well,"
"so. let's get into this though. you think you're d-"
hobi's hand shoots to cover the mouth of his hyung.
and he pushes him in the door.
"bye jin-hyung have a nice day, GOODBYE NAMJOON-AH."
namjoon yells goodbye back and after i bid farewell to jin, we're off.
i take him to my favorite spot in town.
it's quiet, plays nice music, and has really good food.
"welcome to my happy place." i say as we step in the door.
the heat hits me hard, and i slip my jacket off as we make our way to my usual table.
"when i'm feeling up to eating, i like to come here. it's always quiet and no matter what you get, it's flawless."
he smiles and eyes my exposed arms.
"i like your tattoos," he says.
"i do too, they all have a specific meaning to me."
he reaches to touch the 'so live well.' on my forearm.
"no context. just, so live well. i like that. what is it's meaning?"
"mom always told me and my brother that our special character meant we were to grow up and live good, well off lives. that took us somewhere. and i got it to motivate me to do so. to be successful and go places in life. but now im 25, work in a bakery, and basically depend on jimin's meals to keep me alive. so now it's just a mom tattoo. to remind me of her."
i won't tell him that i have money yet.
he doesn't need to know that i am successful like my mother had hoped i'd be.
not yet.
he'll learn soon.
he unbuttons the top button of his shirt and pulls it to expose the left side of his chest.
i hadn't noticed before, because i didn't allow myself to stare, but across his collar bone it reads ripple.
"my mother always told me that my name would spread throughout the whole country. like water rippling outward. and i really believed her. but i can't really sing.
or rap. so i took up dance. i've always been pretty good at that. and i've kept at it. i still believe her. and want to be what she wants. so i keep trying. that's my life goal, if i'm honest. to make my mom proud and spread my name throughout this whole country. i want to be like the ripples in the water. i want to spread and be big for her one day."
"you dance?" i ask, as he re-buttons his shirt.
"i do. a backup dancer for bighit, in fact. i met one of my best friends there, he's called taehyung. he's really weird. and never wears shoes unless he's actually forced to. but i love him he's my best friend." he pauses and looks at our hands.
i do too.
i hadn't realized that our fingers were intertwined on top of the table.
i smile at it.
then he starts talking again.
"how did you meet jimin?"
"oh boy. have i got a story for you."
