The sky is pitch dark and of course the moon is illuminating over the house like some Norman Bates scene, and crickets are chirping all around. I hate that I left Alee alone and I'm an asshole for what I said to her. Of course everyone cares about her, I'm just selfish and want her to only want my care. I'm just tired of all this back and forth between us and lately it's been popping up every damn minute. I haven't been content with everything that's been going on lately. I've been distant these passed few days and I know she has noticed from how disconnected I am when we talk or are around each other. I'm just afraid that I'll say the wrong thing and push her away.
"Is your phone on silent?" Conor passes in front of me as we walk up the stairs to the front door and he isn't doing a good job at masking his uncertainty. He's usually a "I don't give a fuck" type of guy and seeing him grow towards the edge is weird.
"Yeah, is yours?" I turn to look at the car at the end of the street to make sure Niall is still there but all I see is darkness.
"Yeah. Okay listen," We both reach the top and he turns to me taking in a deep breath, "I'll take the bottom you take the top. Here," His hand slides under his shirt to the back of his pants and I hear a rattle. What the fuck?
"You brought a gun?" I step back away from the black metal in his hand like it's a poisonous snake. I promised Alee I would never touch one of those again and quite frankly, I don't want to either.
"Just take it." He rolls his eyes extending his hand and I take the gun from his. It's heavier than the one I had and the grip is thicker. "Only use it if they pull theirs out. They always carry one so keep it in reach while you look around."
"Where did you get this?" I examine the gun all around, trying to make a comparison to it under the dark sky and he opens the mailbox attached to the bricks of the house beside the door and opens it to take out the house key.
"The storage." He slides the key in the lock and opens the door. I've told him countless times to never go there without my permission. Is he fucking stupid?
"I don't remember this one being in there." I won't tell him I'm pissed that he did it, knowing him he'll end up arguing back and getting both of us killed.
We both step into the pitch black house and he quietly shuts the door. I know every single thing that's inside of the storage. I know all the weapons and drugs, how much money is in there and I've never seen this one. It's nothing unique, it just has a different feel to it.
"Pierce loaded a whole new bunch of shit in there the other day. He didn't tell you?" He whispers and the heels of my boots against the tile ground echo's in the mansion.
"No. I haven't spoken to him since the other day." My threat must of scared him. He should've known better than to talk to Alee. I swear to God, people don't listen on purpose.
"There you go, man. Gotta keep up with your employee's." He turns on his heel and locks the door. The silence is numbing. I feel deaf and on top of that, it's so dark I feel blind. My eyes haven't adjusted to it yet and I feel like I have to hold on to him so he could guide me through this.
"It's fucking dark." I whisper pulling my phone out and turning the flashlight on. Once the light hits the house, it's completely empty. Nothings inside except for a small couch and a empty case of beer in the spacious living room and I wonder why the fuck he needs a place this big. "Keep your gun on safety."
"Already is." He breathes wrapping his finger around the trigger while he pulls his phone out for light. Just as he does, it vibrates and he nods his head looking away from the screen. "They're about to pull up now."
