Amy's POV

I just about got the stain out of my clothes and had cleaned myself off when the doorbell rang. That must have been Kyle, Laur said he was going to pick her up tonight. The doorbell rang again, why wasn't she answering the door? I got out my phone, put the flashlight on and went downstairs to open the door to a smiling Kyle with flowers in his hand.

"Hey Kyle," I smiled back at him. He entered the house and put the flowers down on the table and then looked around on confusion.

"What happened to the lights?" He asked. I chuckled lightly.

"The power went out." I stated. He looked at me.

"Is Lauren ready? We were supposed to be going on a date," he informed. I frowned.

"She went down to the basement to try and get the power back up, but she has been quite a while," I said, worrying now, "We should go check on her." He followed me to the basement door. When I reached forward for the handle, is when I saw it. Smoke. A lot of it, escaping from the crack under the door. Kyle and I shared a look. He had spotted it too. I pulled at the door but it wouldn't budge.

"Lauren!" I yelled banging on the door, Kyle moved in front of me and, with all his strength, managed to haul the door open. Immediately, we were met with clouds of smoke, I coughed as I stared wide eyed to the flames emerging from the basement. But the most scariest part was, that my sister was somewhere in there.

Kyle's POV

I almost screamed aloud once I saw the fierce flames attacking the stairs but what scared me more was the distant figure of Lauren at the back of the basement who had just collapsed to the floor. Amy seemed to be in shock, I needed to act fast. I cursed under my breath.

"Amy!" I said, shaking her shoulders slightly, "You need to call for help now! I'm going to try to get Lauren out." Without waiting for a response, I pulled my shirt over my mouth and nose and charged down the basement stairs, ignoring the burning sensation that began to coat my body. I expertly dodged the flames as I finally neared Lauren. I had just one thought on my mind and that was saving Lauren. I quickly scooped up her unconscious body and hugged it close to me, to avoid her being further burnt from the fire. Once I'd made it out, I quickly used my leg to shut the door behind me to prevent the fire from spreading to the rest of the house. I looked at Lauren's face which was covered in black smoke. Her body was so limp in my arms.

"Lauren, wake up!" I yelled, "Please, I can't lose you!" I sobbed. As I was breaking down, Amy came over to me, she was also crying.

"K-kyle quick, the ambulance is outside," she stuttered out. As soon as the words left her mouth, I sprinted out the front door and gently laid her on the stretcher they had out. The fire crew were also there and began to invade the house to put the fire out. Amy and I sat in the back of the ambulance with Lauren and a paramedic. I held her hand while the paramedic took care of her. Then she came over to me and handed me an oxygen mask, I tried to wave her off and instead focus on Lauren, before I realised how heavily I was coughing. I took the mask, identical to Lauren's, gratefully, as my breathing slowly regulated.

"Is she going to be okay?" Amy asked worriedly. The paramedic sighed as she gave Lauren another shot and adjusted her oxygen mask.

"It's hard to tell at the moment, the burns look pretty severe," she said, "You should wait until the burns have properly been checked over at the hospital." I squinted my eyes shut, trying hard to fight the tears.

"Why isn't she waking up?" I asked, as I moved the mask away from my face.

"She inhaled a large amount of smoke, but the oxygen the mask is supplying should be helping her, so hopefully she'll be awake soon." I replaced the mask and brought Amy into a side hug, as she cried into my shoulder. We just need to wait.
