GRAYSONS POVI walked silently through the town - what was left of it, at least. Xavier was checking out a different building.
We were too late.
The small army of rogues that we had been trying to get under control these past few weeks threatened that they would attack this town if Xavier didn't comply with their demands.
Bodies lay every where, human and vampire alike.
These people didn't deserve to die.
They acted ravenously, leaving almost no survivors. We were doing a final sweep, assessing the damages and doing a body count.
I myself had taken down 12 rogues. The guards that had come with us were regrouping at the town center.
He should've never trusted these idiots to live peacefully on their own. They held the beliefs that vampires should rule openly, enslaving humans entirely. I winced when I moved my arm. I sighed, hearing the crunch as I snapped it back into place.
"One of them bested you, huh?" Xavier laughed lightly, coming up beside me. I looked back, surprised that he was joking right now. The sadness in his eyes told a different story.
"So much loss" he muttered, rubbing his eyes.
I nodded quietly. This was definitely a tragedy. We took most of the rogue coven down, a few escaping."Where do we go from here?" I spoke quietly, feeling cautious. I was never on this side of this type of attack before.
"We can only go up." He muttered back, moving the lifeless bloodied body of a human.
We froze at the same time, there was another vampire near. I looked at him carefully and he crouched, listening. I sharpened my focus, narrowing my eyes.
Xavier nodded towards one small house, we stepped quietly.
Xavier nodded once and kicked the door in.
We weren't prepared for the sight that beheld us.
A child was sitting amongst 4 bodies, his eyes were blood red.
He looked at us quickly, he was grasping the arm of a human. I heard Xavier swallow hard, dirt shifted behind us and I acted fast, whipping around and grabbing a man by the throat.
He struggled against me, a low hiss coming from his blood stained mouth.
I threw him down quickly, stepping on his back and holding both of his arms behind him, ready to rip them off. He growled and yelled as Xavier stepped towards us, his eyes turning black.
"Who did this" he snarled at the man as he eyed the child.
"I don't know!" He spat back, I pushed into his mind. Too easy.
"Who turned this child!?" Xavier's voice boomed through the house, the kid continued feeding from the body, completely unfazed by us.
"I don't know! I swear!" He yelled and I nodded, looking at Xavier.
"He doesn't know." I spoke through clenched teeth.
Xavier straightened up, staring at the man with cold eyes.
"That's unfortunate for you." He whispered, the man shouted a quick 'no' before I had reached down and dislocated his head from his body. I stood up straight and we stopped a few feet before the child.
"Xavier.." I trailed off, my chest feeling heavy.
"I know Grayson...you draw the line at kids." He whispered the ending and guilt filled me. For a second I considered it. I considered breaking my one rule and killing this child to put him out of his misery..to save him from a lifetime of pain and what he was forced to become. That wasn't my choice to make though. I couldn't play God with this child's life like these shit head rogues did.
