"I'm afraid Keith. What if I don't make it back?"

It was a suicide mission. I was supposed to infiltrate a Galra base that was supposed to be carrying classified intel on where there next quintessence shipment will be.

It started off fine. I flew red on to their base all stelathly like. I hopped out and shut her off so they couldn't see her quintessence level. I patted her head softly and tip-toed off.

I had my bayard out ready to attack at any moment. I stopped at a corner and put my back against it like how you see in the movies. I peeked around the corner and two Galran soldiers where there.

They hadn't seemed to notice me yet. I carefully switch my gun out for a knife so it wouldn't make to much noise. I sliced the soldier in half then the other one too.

I felt a tug on my heart strings. I shouldn't be killing people. I'm only 16. 17 in a few months. I should be worrying about exams, or girls...guys too.... but that's not important. I'm here on this mission and I need to focus.

I'm afraid I will die though. Especially at a young age. This is war, it takes and takes and leaves nothing behind. It doesn't stop for anyone. My heart raced at the thought of leaving everything behind.

- flash back to a few Vargas ago-

I wrote a note to everyone important in my life. One to Keith, Allura, Shiro, Pidge, Hunk, Coran. Now I just had to make my mother's.

To my dearest, Mama

If this is ever sent to you my condolences. I have not wished for this to ever happen to a great lady such as you. My heart sinks at the thought of leaving you all alone. Yet I know inside I already have left you to come here to save the universe. I was afraid Mama, ever since I was young I was afriad I would lose you. Now I have to bare the these thoughts all the time. Not just about you but about my friends too. I hold you dearly to my heart. I'm sorry I left so soon. That you didn't see me become that awesome space pilot.

I wish you the best.

Your dearest,
Lance Mclain

I stacked the letters into a neat pile on my desk to be easily found. I made sure my room was clean so the others would not have to clean it if I were to.... kick the bucket.

-end of flash back-

I maneuvered carefully in the halls. I made sure I didn't run into any soldiers. I finally got to the room holding the files.

I pushed open the door and it made a creaking noise. There stood a full army of soldiers waiting for me.

It was a trap.

I ran the other direction back to my lion. This place was a huge maze. I got turned around multiple times. As I was running I would turn back shot a few the continue running. I thought I was about half way to my lion but in fact I was about half way the wrong way.

The amount of soldiers grew and I wasn't strong enough to hold him off alone. A soldier shot me on the side. I fell to the ground in pain. I clenched my teeth to prevent a scream. Tears rolled down my eyes. I applied pressure to the wound. Soldiers surrounded me laughing and smirking.

"Who would know humans could get down on one shot? Weak~" One solider said. I passed out from the pain a few moments later.

I woke up in a darkroom with my back against the wall. I tried to move but the excruciating pain from my hip made it impossible. I looked around to find nothing but emptiness. My heart raced.
