The edge of Dean's bed smushed under Serah's weight. "He should wake up soon." She looked over her shoulder where Sam and Cas stood at the end of the bed. Sam watched her and then his brother, his shoulders relaxing.
"Who the hell are you?"
Serah turned around. Green eyes staring her down. "Hi. I'm Serah."
Dean sat up. Cas immediately walked around to the other side of the bed. Sam went to the side Serah sat on.
"Dean, this is Serah. Gabriel's daughter." He looked down at the girl.
Dean changed looks with Sam, pulling up his eyebrows. Then, he lifted himself from the bed, shared a look with Cas and left the room, the others follow.
"Dean, maybe you shouldn't-"
"I feel fantastic," Dean exclaimed.
"Oh yeah, you're welcome."
Dean turned around. Serah had to tilt her head upwards to watch him in the eye. "I killed Michael. Saved you. You're welcome."
Dean looked doubtful. "You killed him? You?"
"Nephilims are more powerful than you think." She sighed. "So I just saved your ass, saved the world from another apocalypse, and learned some dope new skills. I say it's a win for everybody."
Dean still gave her a doubtful look.
"You should definitely get something to eat. Your body didn't get any kind of nutrition for weeks."
"She's right," Sam agreed. "I think you deserve a good dinner." He headed to the kitchen, the others following. When Serah entered the kitchen, she saw her dad, Jack and Clark sitting at the table. Clark leaned over Jack's shoulder, explaining the rules of a card game he and Gabe were playing.
"Gabriel?" Dean's voice was full of surprise.
"Hey Dean," he replied. "Long story, don't ask."
Sam cleared his throat. "Uhm, he just kinda showed up when we were gone. This place was overrun by who knows what."
"We know." Gabriel didn't even look up from his cards. "The Empty was pissed I was gone but a deal is a deal."
Serah watched him, then Sam. "Deal? Did I miss anything?"
"Complicated story. Would only worry you. You don't need to know about this." He put down his cards and got up. He cupped her face and placed a kiss on her forehead. "Don't worry, buttercup, okay? Everything is alright."
Serah couldn't but smile. Her eyes wandered to Sam who leaned against the doorframe, eyes directed to the floor. In the time Dean was still knocked out, they had talked about this. That maybe it wasn't a good idea to overwhelm Dean with all that info all at once. Sam had told her Gabe and Dean had a rocky past especially, and that maybe it was no good to tell him that the guy who tried to kill them several times was dating his baby brother. They wanted to tell him, eventually, just not right now. Serah wasn't happy with this. She wanted a happy family life she had been wanting for so long. She wanted to wake up in the middle of the night and sneak in their bedroom to cuddle in their bed. She wanted to be overwhelmed when father's day comes around and she had to prepare two breakfasts in bed for them. She wanted them to be happy and do all those fun couple things without worrying someone might see them. And she knew Sam wanted these things too. He wanted to go to them and hug them, be part of the father-daughter moment.
Dean didn't seem to notice. He just made his way to the fridge and started preparing dinner.
Serah walked up to the table and sat down opposite the boys. "Hiya, there."
Clark smiled. "Hey."
"Maybe you should teach him solitaire first," Serah suggested.
"I tried."
Gabe dropped back into his seat. "You got the rules down, boy?" He picked up his cards again, Serah sneaked a look. She watched them play, the smell of food filled the kitchen.
She looked over to Sam who was talking to Cas, a concerned look on their faces. She couldn't make out what they were talking about, but they stopped when Dean watched over his shoulder, so she assumed it was about him. Dean seemed to share that thought. "You have something to tell me?" he asked.
Sam put in a clueless face. "No. What do you mean?"
"You're hiding something from me."
Sam furrowed his brows. "I'm just a bit concerned, you know? Being possessed by an archangel..."
"I told you, I feel fantastic. I'm perfectly fine." He turned off the stove and put the wooden spoon aside. "Now come help me bring this to the large table."
Serah got up and opened the cabinet above her head. Sam must have put the plates there because there was no chance she could reach them.
The taller Winchester noticed. He stood behind her, one arm wrapped around her, the other one taking out a few plates and giving them to the shorter girl.
"Here you go," he said and pressed a small kiss on her head. Serah smiled.
Quickly, she brought the plates to the table they always had dinner at. Dean put food on each plate.
Serah sat down on one of the seats, the others came as well, Gabriel next to her, Sam in the next seat. They tried really hard to avoid eye contact with each other. Sam didn't look at anyone in general. Serah felt sorry for him. She would never want this. She wants them to he happy, not ashamed. The dinner was awfully quiet.
