Serah dropped her jacket on her bed. Now Amie was here. Great. She obviously felt bad for her and Mona. Seeing Stephen on the floor like that was awful, even though he always gave off a creepy vibe.
Serah picked up her phone. It felt like the right moment to call someone. She had a collection of options, yet not really. She had a few friends. Margo, Juniper, Tom, Elliot, Indigo and Nathan. Margo was no option because she and Serah weren't necessarily best friends or friends at all. June was her first instinct but she knew that on that day June was getting surgery. Nothing to worry about, it had been a small issue she had been dealing with for a few years. Tom would be glad to listen to her, but things were awkward between them since everyone, including Serah, knew he had a crush on her. Elliot was always a little weird with giving advice so that was not ideal. Indie never picked up her phone anyway, so... Nate, it would be.
Still hesitant she searched his contact and pressed the call button. Walking up and down she pressed the phone against her ear. Finally, he picked up. "Yo, what's up?"
Serah smiled. "Hey, I was just checking in. How are you?"
A soft laugh came from the other end. "I guess I'm fine."
"What's so funny?" Serah asked and sat at the end of the bed.
"Your small talk, that's funny. Anyway, I'm fine, what about you?"
"Oh boy, do I have a story."
Another laugh. "You never call without a story."
"Okay, so, I told you I was gonna go to Kansas to meet my dad, or whatever, right?"
"Yeah."
"Alright, so, he's dead."
"Oh, wow. That sucks."
Serah sighed. "It's complicated. I'm now with one of his friends and my uncle and my cousin. I'll stay in Kansas for a while."
"Oh, wow," Nate repeated himself. "That sucks. How are we supposed to meet?"
"Yeah, sorry. I did that three-hour-tour three times today. We ain't gonna meet anytime soon." Serah ran her fingers through her hair. "That really sucks, as you would say."
"Well, maybe I can come over. Not today, but maybe soon," Nate suggested.
"We'll see about that, I guess," Serah smiled. "Anyway, what did I miss?"
"Oh, a lot."
Surprisingly, Serah had missed the most exciting day to ever happen in Omaha. She listened to Nate's stories, which were definitely not true at all. His voice was calm, yet so energetic. When they were in groups, he didn't show this side of him. Sure, he was definitely more upbeat and energetic than the others in the group, but Serah noticed how happy he was to finally tell someone his fever-dreams. He sounded happy.
Nate was just about to finish his story on how he almost lost an arm when it knocked on the door. Sam entered the room.
"I'll call you back," Serah hushed.
"But I wasn't finished yet!"
"I'll head ya," she simply said and closed the call.
"You didn't have to hang up," Sam said.
"It's fine," Serah answered smiling.
"We're ordering lunch. You want anything?"
"Uh, sure," she smiled.
Together, they went to the large table with the map. Serah dropped into one of the chairs. While everyone crowded around the menu of a pizza place, Serah inspected everyone at the table. There was Sam, obviously, and also Jack and Castiel. Directly opposite to her there was a boy. He had black hair and blue eyes. She didn't know him.
After maybe a minute of sinking into her thoughts, the boy got up. He walked around the table and sat in the chair next to her.
"Hey," he said.
"Hey," Serah replied.
"We never met," he noted. "I'm Clark."
"Serah." She pulled her left knee to her chest and wrapped her arms around it. "Are you friends with them?"
Clark chuckled. "Sorta. Jack and I met under strange circumstances. Maybe a story for another day. Either way, he felt bad and invited me over for a week. And you?"
Serah chewed on her lip. "I, uh. My dad is- was... He was a friend of them and I was looking for him. And I'm still looking, just they are helping me."
"That's cool, I guess." Clark watched the table for a second, before looking up at the people around the menu. "Yo, Jack," he said. "Can I see?"
Jack, having focused on choosing a meal, watched up, remained silent for a second and then slid the menu over to the two.
"Thanks," Clark said, putting the paper in between of them. "Doesn't all of that sound just appetizing?"
"Well, who could resist a good pizza with pineapple?" Serah said, in her most serious voice she could possibly pull off.
Clark watched her, a dead stare. "Please tell me you're joking."
"No, I absolutely love disgusting things," Serah replied. The corners of her lips smirked up as she turned her head to the menu, scanning the variety of pizzas. Soon enough, Sam was talking on the phone, ordering everyone's meals like he probably had many times before, according to the condition of the menu. "Yeah, thanks, see you then." Sam closed the call and stuffed his phone in the pocket of his jeans. One of the things Serah hated the most was waiting. Her time was just too valuable to waste, at least that's what she thought when she wasn't wasting her time on other things. She watched the others. Sam and Cas sat at the end of the table and were discussing something Serah didn't bother to eavesdrop on, Clark had shifted attention to his phone, and Jack? Jack was staring in their general direction, a smile on his lips. Well, maybe 'general direction' wasn't the right term. He clearly was looking at them. Well, maybe not 'them'.
