"Mary." Serah knocked on the wooden door. "Can I ask a favour of you?"
The door opened and Mary stepped into the doorframe. "Of course," she said. "What's the matter?"
"I got this from the trash bin." Serah pulled out a neat envelope, the name "John Winchester" written in Sam's handwriting. "It looks exactly like the wedding invites. I saw that Dad threw it in the bin and he cried."
"You want me to talk to him?" Mary asked.
"Dear Lord, no." Serah put the envelope back into her pocket. "We're gonna go to your husband, tell him what happened and hope that he finally puts Dad's feelings over his dumb mindset. Also, you gotta drop me off downtown. Please."
Mary sighed. "We can try at least."
"You're the best!" Serah exclaimed and wrapped her arms around Mary. "Let's go before Dad hears us and kills me." She walked to the garage, soon followed by Mary. About an hour later, they stopped in front of a small motel, nowhere near where John had stayed prior to that. Obviously, a hunter wouldn't stay in one place.
"How did you know that?"
"I have my sources." Serah left the car and walked up to the door. She knocked.
"Who's there?" a male voice asked from the inside.
"I'm looking for Carlton McNeil."
The door opened. "Oh lord, it's you." John tried to close the door, but Serah held the door open.
"I'm not playing any games today," she said and pushed the door open. "We're gonna talk and there's no 'no'."
"Do you need to know how to use a condom?" he asked. "Because apparently, you don't know how to use one."
"Yes, congrats, you're having a great-grandchild. Surely he or she will get along with your other grandchildren. Because surprise, surprise, your oldest one and his boyfriend adopted a lovely little girl and your second-oldest is expecting a sweet baby and your youngest is also at our place, not even wanting to talk to you because you're an asshole."
"You should pay me a little more respect."
"Not respecting you until you respect gay folks, man." Serah pulled out the envelope against his chest. "That's for you, by the way. Dad didn't have the guts to send it to you because he was scared you'd do whatever. You're capable of a lot of things."
Quietly, John opened the envelope.
"This is the absolute last chance to save your family life," Serah said. "You could have a beautiful and lovely wife, four awesome children and two sons-in-law."
John didn't lift his eyes from the paper. "Four?"
"Yep. The two sons you should remember, and then there's Adam who you didn't want anyone to know about. Also, there's still Millie who doesn't even know you exist because nobody cared to tell her about you when she came to us."
"I get it." John put the card aside.
"Anyway." Serah sighed. "That's all. It's your choice. Bye-bye." She turned around and walked back to the car. Silently, she got back in.
"And?"
"I think he will think about it." Serah buckled her seatbelt and sighed. "I'll have to go to the city hall, handle some things for my wedding gift."
"Why?" Mary asked as she drove off the carpark.
"It's a surprise." She pulled out her phone and typed in a message in Eliot's chat.
"Hi! Miss you, are you up for a sleepover?"
Mary smiled. "Eliot, huh?"
"How'd you know?"
"You always smile when you text him." Mary smiled softly. "You should probably ask him out."
Serah sighed deeply. "We talked about this. I-"
"Don't know if you really like him because hormones mess up your feelings. Trust me, I had two pregnancies."
"I just don't know." Serah ran a hand through her hair. "I will tell him as soon as the baby is here."
"You should," Mary said. "You shouldn't play with his feelings."
"I don't want that! I told him and he said he's okay with that and he's okay with just being friends."
"It's alright. Love is complicated. I mean, look at your dad and uncle. They needed a couple of years to figure things out."
"Yeah, your husband didn't help either."
Mary watched her. "What do you mean?"
"Dad told me that Dean had a boyfriend once. John caught them."
"This is not the man I married..." Mary shook her head. "Just don't be like him. Ever."
