"We're gonna have a problem." Gabriel shut the door and approached the hunter.
"What's wrong?" Sam asked worriedly.
"Serah is a teenager. She is allowed to have privacy." He crossed his arms. "Also, I think you're overstepping some boundaries here. Especially with the touching and everything."
Sam watched the shorter. "What the hell are you talking about?"
"If Serah wants to leave, you let her go. It's as easy as that."
"I think I know what I'm doing."
Gabriel scoffed. "What do you know about parenting? Your dad is an abusive homophobic asshole and your mom was dead until you were in your thirties!"
Sam clenched his hand to a fist. "And you are the master parent with your dead-beat dad and non-existent mother."
"I took care of hundreds of angels when nobody else did!"
Sam kept quiet for a moment. "Fine," he eventually said. "Do your own thing. I'll stop." He left the room.
"Sam! She's your daughter too!"
"Well, I didn't sign up for this, did I?"
"Rude."
Sam watched to the side, Serah walked past them.
"Serah, I didn't mean it," he tried to explain.
"No, I get it." She turned around to them. "Going from single to having a daughter in a matter of days, but you're wrong in one thing." She tilted her head to the side. "You did sign up for this. By not using a condom." She turned around again and left them standing in the hallway.
"Fantastic, Sam. Now she hates you." Gabriel left the room and left Sam alone.
"Serah?" he called. "Serah, honey where are you?" He looked in the entire bunker until he finally found her, wrapped in Mary's arms.
"Hey," Mary said.
"Serah, I'm sorry for what Sam said, okay?"
Serah nodded, tears streaming down her cheeks. "No, it's absolutely fine that he has no interest in parenting."
"Shh." Mary wrapped her arms tighter around the nephilim.
"Believe me, it's not that," Gabriel reassured. "He's just a little too much into it, you know? This is new for him."
Mary chuckled. "And he didn't get the best example either." She pressed a kiss against her temple. "You know what? Maybe he should spend some father-daughter time with you the way he is used to it."
Serah wiped away her tears and watched her grandmother. "What?"
Mary smiled and let go, before walking where Gabe came from.
The archangel seemed to know. "Let's go." They walked a while to a place Serah had never been. The door was locked.
Sam joined them, keys in hand. "Ready?"
Serah watched him. "Ready for what?"
"Learning some valuable life skills." He unlocked the door and went inside, Serah followed. Behind the door, there was a shooting range. A full blown shooting range.
"What the hell?" Serah mumbled. She walked towards a cabinet, locked.
"We're hunters," Sam said, unlocking the cabinet. "That's what we do." He took a gun and some ammunition. "Ever held a gun before?"
Sam put the gun in Serah's hands and stood behind her. Carefully, he explained every step to her. He helped her keep her hands steady and taught her how to aim.
"Now, you wanna hit the middle," he said. "Go for it."
Serah pulled the trigger. She didn't hit the middle as Sam told her, but maybe two inches next to it. When she looked at Sam, he smiled brightly.
"You what? Close enough to hit someone." He kissed her temple. With trembling hands, Serah put down the gun.
"I think I prefer close combat." She turned around in Sam's arms.
"Guns are safer," Sam smiled.
"Not if you don't hit anything."
They giggled and Serah leaned her head against his chest.
"I'm sorry for what I said," Sam mumbled, suddenly very serious.
"I know," Serah replied. "You two were arguing and sometimes you say things you don't mean. I'm a teenager, I would know."
"You're more adult than I am," Sam smiled. "You know, I'd love to meet your boyfriend."
"Yeah, that's not gonna happen."
Sam laughed. "Worth a try." He brushed through her hair. "So you like combat? Wanna practice that?"
Serah smiled. "Because that sounds so fair."
Sam put away the gun, locked everything and then made his way back, Serah behind him. They talked happily until the door of Dean's room opened. Anael left the room, hair was slightly rumpled. She didn't see them as she directly went for the door. Dean looked out of his room, a pleased smile on his lips. He was only wearing boxers and a t-shirt.
Sam chuckled. "So, you're into angels?"
Dean finally noticed them, watched his little brother and cleared his throat. "I'm allowed to have fun."
"Yeah, sure. It only took you a bit to find the right angel for it."
Serah was very confused but Dean seemed to understand. "We talked about this, Sam."
"Talked about what?"
Dean watched her. "Nothing."
Serah crossed her arms. "I thought you're the cool uncle."
Sam laughed. "You did?"
"I am," Dean protested. "Your father is just an idiot."
Serah giggled. "Maybe you should put on a pair of pants."
Dean nodded. "Maybe I should." He shut the door.
Serah hugged Sam's arm. "Now explain."
"Nope."
"Dad pleaaaaaaase," she whined.
Sam chuckled, his hand pet her hair. "Maybe I'll tell you another time. Or else, Dean will kill me."
Serah sighed. "Whatever," she mumbled. "You're boring."
"I'm safe," Sam laughed. He ruffled her hair. "Maybe ask Dean. I'm sure your 'cool uncle' will explain."
"He might," Serah smiled. "I mean, he let me drive a car he might as well talk about his sex life with me."
"Don't make it weird," Sam laughed.
"I didn't make it weird! You made it weird." Serah giggled. "But I guess you're used to all sorts of weird."
Sam nodded. "That's true. Angels, nephilim... We used to have regular visits from the king of hell."
"Used to?" Serah asked. "What happened?"
"He died."
"And hell is now what?"
Sam sighed. "Probably anarchy. Not interested in finding out, but lately it's been awfully quiet. Except for the entire angel situation, I suppose."
"And the family situation." Serah sighed. "That is on one hand very nice, on the other hand pretty awful though."
"What do you mean?"
Serah chuckled. "Well, you got a daughter and a boyfriend. That's cool. But your dad is a dick."
"He's always been like that," Sam admitted. "I mean, he wasn't gonna be thrilled about me being with a man."
Serah leaned to him. "You don't need him."
"I know," Sam replied, wrapping his arms around her. "I know."
