Serah leaned on her hand. Dean put a large pot on the table and took off the lid.
The family had decided it was time for a large family dinner. Her dads were there, and her uncles with their angel boyfriends. John and Mary had invited Chuck and Becky as well. Jess and Millie didn't have anyone, but they didn't seem to mind. Up to that point, the mood seemed to be pretty good.
Once everyone had a plate, Dean started the conversation. "So, how has everyone been?"
"We've been alright," Chuck said. "Becky locked the liquor cabinet, which is probably better for me."
"Daddy, what's a liquor cabinet?" Tedy looked up at Dean with large, green eyes.
"It's where grown-ups store their grown-up juice," Dean explained.
Serah laughed. "Grown-up juice? That sounds a lot more fun than it is."
"What about the others?" Sam asked. "What did we miss?"
"I'm still figuring out how to use social media," Adam said with a mouth full of food. "Since Serah refused to explain."
"That's not true," she protested. "You never asked me."
"Let's not fight." Mary leaned over to make sure both of them got her scolding look. "Actually, John and I have something to tell you."
Sam and Dean shared a thoughtful look, almost as if they knew what they were gonna be told. Nonetheless, Sam cleared his throat and after a sip of tea, he nodded. "Tell us."
A shy smile grew on Mary's lips as she pulled out a small white and grey square that she handed to Dean. "We found out a few days ago and didn't know when the right time was to tell you."
"This is great." Sam smiled and leaned over to look at the small ultrasound picture.
"Is that a boy or a girl?" Dean asked, holding the picture closer to his face.
"That's clearly a girl." Sam pointed on the picture. "Look."
"That's not even part of the baby, Sam," Dean said. "But maybe it's a girl."
"It's not," John revealed. "The doc said it's a boy."
"I knew it," Dean said, very convinced of his own words.
"You didn't know anything," Sam said.
"I knew it." Dean held down the picture. "See, Tedy, this is what a baby looks like when it's still in the belly."
"Is it grey?" Tedy asked.
Dean chuckled. "No, pumpkin, but the baby is still very small."
"Was I that small?"
"Sure, you were." Dean handed back the photo. "Even Uncle Sam was that small once."
"Wow." Tedy poked in her food. "I wanna be that small, and then I can hide better from the monster in my closet."
"Monster in the closet?" John asked.
Dean sighed. "Tedy is very careful, but I thoroughly looked and I didn't find any monsters."
"Because they are really, really, really small!" She looked up at Dean. "Smaller than the baby."
"Well, if they are small, they can't hurt you."
Tedy watched her plate. "Maybe I can be friends with them."
"That's right, pumpkin. Now finish your dinner before it gets cold."
Serah smiled. "Aren't you the one that held a 20-minute monologue about why cold pizza is just as good as cold pizza?"
"This isn't pizza, though." Dean shoved his fork into his mouth. "Different subject. Sam, how's the cough?"
"Going strong, my throat is dying," Sam said. He lifted his cup to his lips and took a demonstrating sip. "But I'm okay."
"I've been concerned but he's a stubborn idiot," Gabe said. "And he won't let me heal him."
"Why don't you just do it?" Serah asked.
"It's called respect, Serah." Gabe booped her nose and resumed eating.
"I'm offended," Serah said.
"Good."
"Gabe, how old are you again?" Sam asked.
"45," Gabe mumbled.
Chuck chuckled. "More like 4.5 billion."
"I'm leaving."
Serah laughed. "He's a little sensitive." She leaned over and pressed a soft kiss on his cheek. "I love you."
Gabriel tried hard to keep a strict face but he couldn't hide his warm smile. "I love you too."
