Serah dropped her backpack in her room and walked back to her parents. "Do you guys need help with anything?"
"We're good," Gabriel smiled. He pressed a soft kiss on Raphael in his arms and cuddled him. "We'll probably go build a snowman outside. Right, Raph?"
Raph laughed and smiled brightly.
"Sounds great." Serah smiled. "Do you mind if I go downtown? I wanna explore a bit."
"Alone?" Sam asked. "I don't know if I wanna leave a pretty woman alone in a foreign town."
"Come on, dad! I'm 19, I'm a grown-up. I can drink in Canada."
"Well, good that we're not in Canada then." Sam pressed a kiss on her forehead. "Stay safe, be home before sunset."
"Will do, dad." She watched the two. "Now for the real tea. Which one of you is Dad and which one is Papa?"
Sam laughed. "Well, someone-" He watched Gabe. "Tried to teach the kids that I'm Mommy."
Serah giggled. "So..."
"I'm Dad," Sam said. "And he's Papa."
"Alright." Serah smiled. "I'll be home before sunset and try not to get killed."
"Do that, princess." Sam kissed her forehead and ruffled her hair.
Serah smiled and leaned against his hand. "Love you two." She walked back to her room. She grabbed her jacket, scarf and beanie, put them on and left into the snowy streets.
On the way to their cottage, she saw the small town whose name she had forgotten. Narrow streets led through the forest, a thick layer of snow obscured the path. She stomped through the snow until she saw the town. She had to walk down a little slope until she entered the street. The stores were still open and people rushed in and out of them. Serah decided it was time for a nice hot cup of hot chocolate. She slithered through the people and pushed open the door to a small coffee shop. The smell of freshly ground coffee filled her nostrils as she walked up to the counter.
"Hi," the barista said. He was quite tall, blond curly hair and bright blue eyes, his apron was light tan and his name tag showed the name 'Paul'. "What can I do for you?"
"I'd like a hot chocolate with whipped cream, please."
"A hot chocolate with whipped cream for a cute girl, can do." He smiled and turned to prepare her drink. She waited at the other end of the counter and sunk down on the bench next to it. She pulled out a 5-dollar-bill and gave it to the barista.
"You can keep the rest."
He smiled and put the mug in front of Serah. "Very generous of you."
"Surely is," Serah laughed and took a sip. "Wouldn't hurt me."
"Rich?" he asked.
Serah chuckled and shrugged. "I mean, sorta? We don't have to worry, let's put it that way."
"Sounds interesting." Paul leaned against the counter and crossed his arms. The café was filled with empty tables and chairs, only Serah's table and a table in the very back were taken. "So, uhm, you're new around here."
"Vacation," Serah said. "How'd you know?"
"We don't have the best reputation around here. Only Jacob is ever coming here." He pointed to the other table. "But he's here all day so I guess we live off of him and the occasional guest."
"It's a shame." She took a sip. "It's a lovely place."
"Someone died here." Paul chuckled. "And now people say it's haunted. Jacob over there thinks so too. That's why he's here anyway."
Serah smiled. "May it is haunted. You should hire a professional."
"Don't do this to me." Paul dropped on the chair opposite to her. "Don't make me believe every pretty girl is dumb as hell."
"I dropped outta high school so..."
Paul shrugged. "And I run a coffee shop." He watched into Serah's mug. "You free tomorrow for lunch?"
"I'd have to ask my dads and stuff."
"Wanna have my number?" Paul asked. "So you can text me?" He grabbed a pen and a piece of paper and wrote down his number. "What's your name anyway?"
"Serah," she said. "With an 'E' and an 'H'."
"Exotic."
"I think it's Hebrew for 'morning star'. My siblings are named after the archangels too."
Paul smiled. "I'll remember that."
