"I like Brad. He's good for you." Jordan says and I look up from my food. I can already feel the heat attacking my face.
"What brought that up?" I take a slow sip of my water.
"I've been thinking about it since Saturday. I just needed to get it off of my chest."
"Saturday?"
"Yeah, when I called you and Brad answered. It just solidified everything for me. I was on the fence about him for some reason but he really cares about you and that gives him serious brownie points."
"He's pretty awesome." I whisper and take another bite of chicken.
"How was the rest of the weekend?"
"Really good, except poor Maya. It got a lot better once we found out she'd be okay."
"Really good? Like you guys did it?" Her eyes are wide and I bite my lip.
"I'm only telling you because you can read my mind but yes."
"And? You can't leave me hanging."
"It was the best I think I've ever had." As if my face could get more red, it somehow does.
"Did you get him out of your system? For some reason men become so much less attractive after I sleep with them." I smile and look down.
"I'm gonna be so honest with you Jordan when I say that he got so much better after sex. It's like it's not awkward anymore. He's playful and caring and always ensures that I'm just as happy as he is."
"Damn girl. Does he have a brother or a distant uncle or something?" She jokes and I laugh. i look down at the bowl of salad and sigh. I like salad most of the time but since Saturday I've felt bad about myself.
"Will you ease my mind for a moment? Just let me know that I've got this." My mind wanders to Sarah and I feel the nerves coming back. I feel antsy and nauseous at the thought.
"What's going on?" Jordan reaches across the table and takes my hand.
"I met his ex Saturday and she's even more gorgeous in person and kind, which is just my luck. She told Brad she wants to work it out. I mean he chose me in the moment but I can help feeling like I don't measure up to her." I take a deep breath and let it out slowly.
"What did he say when he chose you?" She asks and I smile.
"That he doesn't know if I'm the one but he wants to fall in love with me." I whisper. That should make me feel better, and at the time it did. Now, I just feel anxious.
"Just give him a chance. He's was with her for a long time and if he made the decision to choose you then you have to trust that." I let the corners of my mouth rise slightly just to appease her.
"Was asking him to come with me this weekend a bad decision?" I ask and bite my lip.
"I don't know. Nothing is normal when it comes to you two. I mean you've been seeing each other for a month and I don't I've ever seen two people so in sync so soon." I scratch the back of my neck.
"We kinda agreed to do things our way. Like we don't follow the normal rules of dating and it's worked really well for us."
"I'm just glad you somehow stumbled upon someone who makes you happy and orgasm." I can't help but laugh at her. She's right though.
I finish my food and push the bowl away from me. My watch dings and I glance at it, rolling my eyes at an email from Alex. I don't want to deal with that now or ever. I'm just glad the divorce papers got sent before he found out about Brad. USPS said I should be getting them today, thank God.
"Is that work? Have we been gone too long?" Jordan asks and I shake my head.
"No. We're fine." I push my hair behind my shoulders and run my fingers through it. I'm thankful for having hair that doesn't really tangle.
"Okay, I'm completely stuffed." Jordan holds her food baby and I roll my eyes with a smile. If she wasn't so cute.
"Let's grab coffee and we'll head back to the office." I slide my feet back into my heels and stand.
"When are you picking Maya up tomorrow? Do you need a ride?" She asks and I put my purse on my shoulder.
"I'm taking the day off. I have a doctor appointment at 8 and Maya will be ready by noon. They want me to take a couple days off to monitor her but Brad offered to watch her during the day." We walk outside and begin the walk back to the office.
"What kind of appointment? You're not pregnant, right?" I knock Jordan's shoulder and roll my eyes.
"I'm on birth control. I go in for the shot every 12 weeks."
"You've been using protection anyways, right?" She asks and I sigh.
"Yes. We have used a condom every time. Well, except once but that was more my fault than his. I kinda jumped him and hopped on." I blush.
"How do you just forget condoms?"
"Um, well, Alex didn't use them." I haven't told her that story yet and I don't know if I'm ready to. It's so personal and private.
"Like didn't use them because you were on birth control or because he didn't like them?"
"Both. He stopped after I got on the shot because they were "uncomfortable"." I air quote, which makes Jordan roll her eyes.
"Typical male. I won't let a guy near me without a condom. I always carry some with me just in case. It's terrifying to think about someone just cumming inside me." She's so blunt but has a point. Except I'm a weirdo and get off on it. I can't tell her that though.
"What's it like?" She asks, breaking my thoughts.
"Hmm?" She stops walking and raises an eyebrow at me, suspiciously. I've given it away. I know I have. She knows.
"You're just full of surprises, Nat." She smiles and I close my eyes for a second to compose myself.
"I don't know what you're thinking but it's not like that." I tell her softly.
"I think you like it. I bet you get off on it." I blush and open my mouth to defend myself before closing it again. Of course he decided to go for a jog now.
"Speak of the devil." Jordan bumps me and I rub my face. Brad pulls his hood down and smiles when he sees me.
"Fancy meeting you here." Our schedules never aligned before. I was here for 6 months and never saw him. Sometimes I think he does things with the hope of seeing me. Like jogging at noon when this is prime filming time for him. In a really nice way, the idea makes me really happy.
"At my favorite coffee shop that I go to almost daily for lunch?" I smile and he leans down to kiss me softly.
"Maybe I was hoping to see you. How're you Jordan?" He looks at her and she shrugs.
"Learning all the dirty secrets. This ones fun, isn't she?" She rubs my shoulder and I want to die. Just curl up into a ball and die.
"She's a handful but nothing I don't want to handle." Our hands find each other. I crave more. I want more. I've never wanted someone so often like this. I mean I am insatiable.
"Good answer. I'll get back to the office. They're probably lost without me. Just get my usual and bring it please." Jordan brushes past me and Brad.
"Be careful." I tell her and she shushes me.
"She's a character." Brad says and I smile.
"She's a mess." I whisper and reach for his other hand.
"You look incredible today." He pulls me closer.
"You don't look so bad yourself." I lift my head to him and he kisses me.
"How much time do you have?" He asks softly and I smile small.
"Not long. I was just dropping by to grab a coffee."
"Hmm, I'll get it for you." He kisses me once more before opening the door for me.
