I ran into the café and pull my hood off of my head. I missed the rain, it didn't do it often in New Mexico. Now, it almost rains too much but I prefer it I think. I walk to the counter and smile.
"Hey there, can I get a latte?" I ask and the man smiles. "Yeah, of course. For here?" He asks and I nod.
"Awesome, that'll be 2.30." I hand him a 5 and walk to an empty booth. I sit and pull out my computer to get some work out of the way. I just had to get out of the office. I've been there all day and most of the night. Usually it's not that suffocating but tonight? I couldn't breathe. Alex has been blowing all of my phones up to talk about the divorce paperwork, which he needs to send back to me because I forgot to sign one place.
"One latte, piping hot." He sits the cup beside me and I smile. "Thank you so much." He nods and walks away from me. I take a cautious sip and all but moan at the familiar, comforting taste. This is the best coffee in the state, I'm sure of it. I sit it back down before opening my email.
From:Alex Robinson
Subject: Divorce PapersI scanned the documents and sent them back to you. Please make sure that everything is signed before you send it back. Honestly, Nat, how many times have I told you to slow down and pay attention? I'll have them notarized and sent in once that's done. You know how much my lawyer costs so please hurry.
He's so rude. It's not my fault that I have never signed divorce papers before. I shake my head and close the email and as I click to the next, a message pops up on the messenger. Of course it's Alex. He saw that I was online and sent a message before I could click off. Note to self-make sure to turn that off.
How's Georgia?
I stare at the message and frown. He's killing me. I hate small talk and I don't want to talk to him...Not a good combination.
Please leave me alone. I will sign the papers ASAP and send them back to you as soon as I can.
I send the message and turn my tab to offline so that he'll stop messaging me. I have to get through the rest of these emails. I take another sip of my latte and it soothes my soul. I slip my headphones on and turn on another gaming video of a game that I've already watched. I do it for background noise and the fact that his voice calms me down. It reminds me of home without actually being home because I would strangle my family.
"Okay guys, welcome back to Resident Evil 7." RadicalBradical voice comes through my earphones and I click back to my email.

Subject: Ran out of the Office?Tried to find you at your desk and you weren't there. You must have slipped out in a hurry. I was away from the desk for less than a minute. I'm impressed with how quickly you can plan out your escape route.
Anyways, Kasey dropped off some more forms for you to file and notarize but they can wait. Also, Alex has been calling every 5 minutes and believes that I'm covering for you. Please call him back before I snap.
On another note, are you okay? I'm worried about you. You've been a little distant today. Just give me a call when you're ready to talk.
I smile and type out a quick response

Subject: Infuriating Soon to be ExPlease snap. If he calls again, tell him to call my cell. I just got back with him via email so he shouldn't be an issue for the rest of the night. I will take care of the paperwork in the morning. Lock my office up for me? You know Kasey is the worst. Speaking of, why can't she do the forms? We have the same job title.
