"I have a huge favor to ask." Jordan says and I look up from my computer. She looks anxious, poor thing.
"Anything." I smile. I hope whatever is bothering her can be easily fixed.
"I'm supposed to have a meeting with the guys today and they're requesting your presence. Apparently some apologies need to be made and they want to do it with me there." Of course. I've stayed far from all of them. I've dodged calls, stay home from work, hid on another floor. It's been exhausting trying to hide from them.
"I will be there then." My smile drops. I'm nervous. My hands are shaking and I can tell that my whole being is off now.
"How are things since you moved in with Brad?"
"They're perfect honestly. I've never been with someone like him and it's so nice." I smile. I can do this. I can't talk about Brad and how much love there is. This is easy.
"Is there a but I'll sensing?" She asks and I sigh.
"He thinks we should just have a joint account and funnel our money there. You know that I've never shared an account with someone though. That part just puts me on edge."
"Yeah, it does seem a bit sudden for joint accounts but why don't y'all open a house account? Put equal amounts into it each month and use that money to pay for bills, upgrades, Renovations, or whatever else the house would need."
"It's a good idea but we live in his apartment. All the bills are already in his name using his accounts."
"Yeah, but if you plan on staying together long term, I'm sure you won't always live in an apartment."
"What if things don't work out?" I ask and bite my lip. It's probably my biggest worry at this point. All of these things were doing feel so permanent, so long term, but I have this overwhelming worry that we're going to crash and burn.
"Can't live your life in 'what if'. Things will go the way they're supposed to and all you can do is go with the flow. Are you happy with Brad?" She asks and I nod. "Does this feel like something built to last?" I nod again. "Then free fall. Let things play out the way they're supposed to and enjoy it."
"Oh, I cannot wait for someone to snatch you off the market." I tell her with a smile. She's in for it then.
"I'm that faded missing puppy sign that's been hidden for decades behind all the new missing animal signs. I will never not be on the market." She looks at her phone and sighs. "Speaking of dogs- we have their meeting now." She grabs their file and stands. I follow her down the hallway and into the room that Jeremy marked. I don't use this room anymore. It's uncomfortable now.
I sit in a chair and pull my phone from my pocket to text Brad.
Hope your day is going better than mine. I've been asked to sit in on a meeting with the guys for apologies. I'll call you when I get out.
I lick my lips and sit my phone down as the bubbles appear to tell me he's typing.
Let's cancel today. Come home.
I smile and shake my head.
We'll see. I love you.
I love you more.
His response is quick and I lock my phone and put it back in my pocket, thankful for a moment with him before all the crazy starts.
"Mrs. Robinson is waiting. I'll be outside." Jordan walks the guys in and looks at me to silently let me know that she's not leaving this time.
"Thank you, Jordan." I tell her and she pulls the door shut as she walks out.
"Hi, guys." I stand from my seat and my eyes find Dan's. I haven't seen him in months. Not since we kissed. His cheeks tinge a slight shade of pink before he looks down, breaking our eye contact.
