The girl stares back at herself, aquamarine eyes fixate on each other, taking in the outline of her nose and the way her lips curve, the way her cheekbones rise and the way her glossy red hair frames her face and flows down her back like a river.

She's beautiful,

Beautifully broken.

Because then her eyes narrow at her own reflection and she sneers, "don't reflect me".

She's a monster.

Pretending to be human.

No matter how much, or how hard you try to play at being a human, you'll never be one.

"That's right, I'm a monster."

Her left hand clenches at her side, nails digging into her palm and embedding their crescent-shaped marks into her skin.

She loathes the girl staring back at her.

She looks human enough, and maybe she could be one.

If not for the two jagged horns protruding out of her head, coloured a crimson red.

If not for her unnaturally sharp canines that draw blood with a scratch.

She's something that shouldn't be here.

Her right hand is on the glass, pressing into it, crushing it, and the mirror cracks.

"Don't reflect me."

She says quietly, her voice is laced with hate and venom and a silent, destructive anger.

"DON'T REFLECT ME!"

And the tiny fissures spreading across the glass widen, shards splintering into pieces, raining down all over the basin and the tiled, yellowed floor at her feet.

Her voice is filled with a feral anger and then she's crushing the glass under her heel, shards to smithereens, smithereens to grains, the crackling sound of broken mirrors bouncing off the walls and into empty space.

The voice in her head is a gunshot and it's all she can hear now, she's lost all control, she doesn't know what she's doing, but she doesn't care, she doesn't care, she doesn't care...telling herself she doesn't care, she doesn't care, she doesn't care at all.

Until the blood is on her hands and running in streaks down her face and matting her hair and oh god she can taste the iron on her tongue and on her lips and teeth - what has she done?

She killed.

You really aren't human.

"Oh-oh my god..."

There's the sound of someone exhaling shakily and she turns - it's a girl with short black hair and midnight blue eyes staring back at her, pupils dilated in fear.

I don't want to kill anymore.

So she stands in the river of red she created herself, and lets the girl go, watching as she stumbles and slips on the bloodied floor, leaving a trail of smeared crimson behind as she runs away.

She guessed it was her turn to run now.

She laughed, a laugh full of sorrow and bitterness and unfulfilled dreams of the life she never had and would never have, she was a creature with cursed blood running through her veins.

She could never be made of anything more than blood and mangled limbs and flesh.
