Ticktock...

The clock ticked away enveloping the really silent room. Suddenly, a surge of breeze blew through the locked windows, throwing them open. The window blind flew about as the cold, harsh air entered the room. The moon light illuminated inside the house, creating a little light in the dark room. Cracking of doors and the wooden floor filled the house. Footsteps were heard and a beautiful woman soon showed up by the window. The moonlight helping in bringing out the beautiful, oval shaped face. The woman stretched out to close the window. Once successful, she sighed and turned, only to be greeted by someone she couldn't even decipher.

"Ah!" She screamed at the sight. The man wore a scare mask and pointed a gun at her. She flinched in fear and the gun was fired.

"Mum? Mum!" A little girl called and entered the room. She was a brunette and her long hair was packed in a high ponytail. She swept across the room with a lamp in her hand. "Mum?" The girl called again until she saw the moving body of the woman and ran to her. She turned her face to look at her and gasped at the sight.

"Mum, what...what happened?" The girl called as tears swelled in her eyes. Her mother was lying helplessly, at the point of death, her mouth dripping pure blood and her face pale. "Mum!" The girl shouted, tears spilling down from her eyes.

"A... Amelia...i love...love you dear. Mummy..." The woman coughed. "I will always be... with you. Take... Take care of yourself and... And be strong." Her voice was weak and it cracked at every word.

"Who did this to you mum?" The girl asked, crying more.

The woman smiled and wiped her tears but her hand dropped weakly. "Don..." She couldn't complete her statement. Her body stiffened and went cold. And her eyes closed slowly with a smile still plastered on her face.

"Mum!" The girl shouted, tearfully. She shook her mother profusely, refusing to accept that she was dead. "You can't just leave me mum. You promised you wouldn't." She said in pain.

I smiled to myself as I carried my bag to the front pouch. It felt good to be home. I adjusted my dress awkwardly before pressing the door bell. It seemed awkward. I was about to enter my house with only my mother waiting for me with her hands stretched out and I was adjusting my dress but Uhmp! Who cares?

The door flung open and I laughed when my mother captured me in a bear hug. It was really hard to breath but I didn't complain. I've missed her so much after all. So much? That was an understatement. I've missed her like crazy.

She finally withdrew from the hug and allowed me into the house after helping with my bag. We closed the door behind us and entered the living room where nothing had changed.

Duh... You were just gone for a month. My brain told me and I rolled my eyes at myself.

"It's nice to be home again." I finally said.

"Oh! I thought you've lost your voice or something." My mum said. I rolled my eyes at her and chuckled.

"Apparently I haven't." I said. "Just, it's...the same."

"Because I didn't change anything." She said in a duh tone.

"You know, you're making me feel like coming home was a mistake." I said with a spout. "I should have just stayed at a hotel or something." Who was I kidding? Even if my mum hates me, I would still come home. Not that she does. Don't get me wrong.

"Uh honey, you know mama missed you a lot." She said.

"Yeah. I missed you too mum." I replied and hugged her again.

"But seriously, you need a bath." She said, withdrawing from the hug and scrunching her nose up.

"Do I stink that much? Jeez! I haven't taken my bath for a month now." I joked.

"What?!" She screamed and I couldn't control my laughter.

"Just joking ma." I said and she threw a pillow at me which I dodged easily. I laughed and ran up my room to have a proper bath.

What?! I did have my bath through out the month but most of it were in a hurry so now, I'm gonna soak myself in the bath tub steaming with warm water and have a proper bath.

I stripped myself naked and hopped into the bath tub before opening the warm water tap. It poured down on my head, make it feel light. I relaxed in the water and only got out two hours later. Now, that's a refreshing shower.

I wore a pair of denim shorts and tank top and went downstairs only to find my mum in the kitchen.

"uhm... Smells like lasagna." I said, walking into the kitchen.

"I'm surprised your sense of smell is still alive." my mum joked.

"Hell it is!" I said and chuckled. She served the hot lasagna in a big round plate and placed it on the dining before making the coffee. "We're eating dinner here?" I asked referring to the dining.

"That's why it's called a dining." She said and gave me a "Can't you see?" kind of look. I rolled my eyes for the third time today.

"Let's watch a movie with dinner! It's been long since I was home and I really wanna have fun." I said. She looked at me as if contemplating on whether to go or not.

"Okay." She finally said. I screamed shrilly and clapped my hands childishly, earning a eye roll from my mum. Whatev...

We proceeded to the parlor and sat on the long couch. Well, she sat. I just laid on my stomach. The bowl of lasagna was in between us.

We searched and searched until we finally settled for 500 days of summer- one of our favourite mother-daughter movies. It was about to start when my phone started ringing.

"Turn it off." My mum said like a teenage girl who was about to watch her favorite movie but was being disturbed.

Well, it is basically one of her favorite movies and you're basically disturbing her. My brain snapped. I felt the urge to slap it but then realized I'll get hurt in the process.

I took the phone, about to hang up when I realized it was a call from my boss. What does he want now? I'm on a break for crying out loud. I excused myself and went to answer the call.
