I walked into the room and closed the door gently behind me. I was about to enter my room when Hayden's voice stopped me.
"Who is he?" He asked. I turned around, looking confused.
"He?" I asked. Who was he talking about?
"The guy you walked with at the beach." he clarified.
"Oh! You mean Stu... Wait! Were you following me?" I asked looking at him in shock. The only way he could have known I walked with a guy was if he was following us.
"Just answer the question." He replied.
"No. I think you should answer me first. Why were you following me?" I asked.
"Listen Camilla, I'm not in the mood for all this. Answer my question."
I laughed drily at his answer. "So do you think I'm in any mood to talk to you too? I told you I could take care of myself!"
"And you didn't notice I was following you all along? Come on Camilla." He said.
I bit my lips angrily as I glared at him. "So what?! I've been in this field for years now and I've gone on missions alone without any partner following me. And look here, I'm alive." I said.
"You call those missions? You were provided with every single details you needed. You need to think in this type of mission. That's why I'm here. Because I'm of an higher rank than you."
"Oh! Now I see. You wanna prove that I'm lower than you are right? That you've gone on more dangerous missions than I have right?"
"Yes! And to top it all, you're a girl! This mission is to find out who murdered Amelia's mum not get a guy in your bed..." I felt my brain go hot at that. My left hand flew into the air and landed straight on his right cheek with full force. He stumbled backwards and held his cheek in surprise. His face became soft as he released his mistake.
"Don't you dare try to call me a whore! I might be a girl but I still got brains. Got that?!" And with that, I walked into my room and slammed the door shut.
Days rolled by and Hayden and I were still stuck as to what to do next. I'm pretty sure we would have figured it out if I wasn't ignoring him. I found spending time with Stuart and Amelia fun.
I watched the view from the balcony and smiled to myself. Nature is a beautiful sight to behold. I watched as the leaves of trees danced to the rhythm of the wind and listened to the sweet soft chirping of the birds. Also the way the ocean waves somersaulted. I didn't even know when Amelia joined me.
"Hey Camy." She greeted and I looked at her.
"Amy, what's wrong?" I asked.
"I was just thinking...you and Hayden don't talk to each other. Instead, you spend time with Stuart." She said.
"Yeah." I breathed out. I didn't know what to say.
"What's wrong Camy? Are you guys fighting?" She asked.
"No Amy. We aren't. There's just nothing to talk about." I explained.
"You know the case hasn't been solved yet, right? That's something to talk about." She said. I sighed knowing she was right.
"Fine. Hayden and I just had a little misunderstanding but we'll get over it soon." I assured her.
"Oh! That's good." She said with a smile. "By the way, you do remember that Stuart invited us for breakfast."
I chuckled. "Of course." I smiled at her and we both walked into the house. Hayden existed his room dressed in all black and we shared eye lock. None of us broke it.
"Just talk to each other already!" Amelia exclaimed and threw her hands up dramatically. That drew our attention.
"Em... Camilla?" Hayden called unsurely. I looked at him. Amelia ran into my room leaving the both of us in the parlor. He took two long steps closer to me and I swallowed heavily due to our level of proximity. The idiot still managed to look hot even though I was mad at him.
I folded my hands over my chest to appear tough. It's been a week now and we haven't even greeted each other. I knew I would easily budge so I had to appear tough and really angry at first.
"Listen Camilla, I'm really sorry for what I said. I shouldn't have said so and I really deserved the slap." He apologized.
"It's okay. I kinda got carried away too. We aren't here to make friends." I said.
"Actually. You aren't wrong. You wouldn't have been friends with him if I hadn't said we weren't friends in the first place. I'm sorry about that too." He apologized again. I dropped my hands and smiled.
"Can't stay annoyed for too long. I didn't like ignoring you too. Not because you're important though." I teased and he laughed.
"Don't worry. I know I'm not." He replied and I laughed.
"How about we talk about the case after breakfast?" I asked.
"Or we can just talk about it while having breakfast." He offered.
"Oops! Sorry. Stuart, Amy and I already have plans." I replied.
He murmured some inaudible words and I tried to hear him. "What did you say?" I asked when he stopped and gave me an obviously fake smile.
"Nothing. Alright, when you're done with breakfast, we'll talk about this." He said. I nodded and Amelia ran back outside dressed in a white T-shirt and blue jeans.
"Come on Camy. Let's go." She said and pulled my hands.
"Okay. Er... Hayden? Should we grab you something?" I asked looking back at him.
"No need. The intercom is here." He said and pointed at it. I nodded again and Amelia finally pulled me out.
We met Stuart at the restaurant and he waved at us to come over to his table. He stood up to greet us once we got there.
'So, what do you guys wanna eat?' He asked, dropping the menu.
"I'd take anything. I'm not really hungry." I said. I also dropped the menu.
"Where's the waiter?" Amelia asked.
"He's coming Anjelica." Stuart said calling her by her fake name. I couldn't take the risk of letting anyone know her real name.
"Hey there. I'm Kim Oprah, your assigned waitress." An average height blonde said smiling down at us.
"Oh good. I'm starving." Amelia said. "Please get me a plate of waffles, bacon and eggs." She said.
"Make that two." I said.
"Just bring three plates." Stuart said.
"Who that be all?" Kim asked.
Stuart looked at both our faces before facing Kim back. "Yes. Thank you." She nodded and walked away.
We talked for a while and Kim brought the dishes. Not so long after we started eating the amazing combination, Stuart received a phone call. He took his phone out of his jacket and took a glimpse at the screen. His startled expression caught my attention but I tried to act cool after all to him, I'm just a normal citizen named Selena.
"Er... Excuse me." He stammered and pulled his chair backwards. I smiled at him and watched him leave. He stopped a few feet away from me, at a distance I couldn't hear his conversation but by the way he gesticulated and sent me a fake smile each time he turned back, I could tell something was wrong.
"So I'm guessing we are on the same page right?" Amelia asked me, bringing my attention to her.
"The same page on what?" I asked in confusion.
"We can both see Stuart looks worried. Something isn't right." She replied. Even Amelia noticed. We both looked over at Stuart again and I was really shocked at what I saw. He was gone.
