“I'm going to bed guys. Good night.”I yawned and stood up from the couch.
“But it's just 9:45. Do you really wanna miss this film?” Gina asked trying to get me to watch the entire movie.
“I really wish I could but my bed calls. Bye.” I waved and climbed half the stairs. I made sure they were concentrating on the movie before tiptoeing to the kitchen. I opened the back door, walked out and closed it back gently before walking to the fence. I climbed the fence and jumped down on the other side before making my way to the field.
Six minutes later...
I stood under the tree with the parcel in my hand as I waited for the killer to show his face.“Camilla.” Someone whispered and my head snapped to my right. A guy stood there with his face covered with an hood.
“Hey. Who are you?” I asked.
He laughed. “It's not that easy dear. I know you're desperate to know the killer.”
“Honestly, I don't care about who you are. Just tell me where you are hiding Amelia.”
“Where's the fun in that?”
“I'm not interested in having fun! I just want to see Amy safe and sound.”
“Look, I would have returned Amy to you since all I needed from her was the diamond but then, you guys will still be hot on our chase and the girl might just spill. But you don't have to worry, we are taking proper care of her.”
“If you touch just a hair on her head then you should know that I won't spare you and that is not an empty threat.” I deadpanned.
He laughed again. “2480, Forest Tower Road, Colorado. Does that ring a bell?” He smirked.
I frowned. “2480...” I gasped. “That's my house.”
“Oh yes darling. Your house. The place you left your mum.”
“Mum! You better don't touch my mum you pervert. I'll kill you! Don't even think of getting her involved in all these!” I shouted and held his collar.
He removed my hands and laughed again. “Shush. It's late you know. Now, to see your mum again, all you have to do is follow my orders.”
“Have you lost it?! I can't follow your goddamned orders. You're the enemy.”
“Just a phone call will end your mother's life. You don't want me to do that. Plus, apart from your mother's life, Amelia and the rest of the FBI is at my mercy. Do you want to see all the people you care about die one after the other?”
“What do you mean by the rest of the FBI are at your mercy? What are you planning motherfucker?!”
“A bomb as been planted in the FBI. A simple mess up from you and boom! They're all dead.”
I gasped.
“And do you know why you haven't been able to reach them?” He smiled. “You'll know that later dear. Now, shall we get to work or are you still going to go against me?”
I swallowed.
“What do you want me to do?” I asked weakly.
He chuckled. “I knew you'd come around. I need you to help me crack a code.”
“A code?”
“Yes. My entire team of hackers failed to crack it and I had to kill them one after another.”
“So what makes you think I can crack it?”
“That's why you're in the FBI. You have really good skills. Anyway, you don't have to worry much. If you fail, you won't be the one dying.”
“Wait! I'll do it okay? I'll do it. Just don't hurt anyone. Please.” I begged.
He chuckled. “Good.” He brought out a USB. “The information on this USB is vital.”
“What's on it?”
“The location of my love.” He said. “Now, all you have to do is hack into the USB and inform me when you're done. I'll be keeping in touch with you through the burner phone. The one I sent to you with the letter.”
“Okay.” I collected the USB. “In return for these, you wouldn't hurt a single soul.”
He raised his hands. “I swear.” He placed them down. “I'll be keeping watch just in case you get into some kind of trouble.”
I nodded and kept the USB in my jean pocket. “I should go now.” I said.
“Yeah. By the way, My name's Ian Cruz.” He lifted his hood up and I was mesmerized by his beauty. How can a guy this handsome be a murderer? It's just so surprising. He has green eyes, a sharp jawline with a pointed nose. His chocolate brown hair fell over his face.
“Stop checking me out and focus on hacking that USB.” He said. Great! Another Hayden. Just what I wanted. He placed the hood back and waved at me before disappearing into the dark night.
I inhaled and exhaled deeply before sprinting back to the house hoping no one noticed I was gone especially Hayden.
I had to climb a tree up to my room's window because the back door was closed. I opened the window gently from outside and walked in before closing the window. I locked my door and dropped the USB and burner phone on the bed.
I walked to the bathroom to change into my night dress. Then, I sat on my bed and picked my laptop. Time to crack some code.
Immediately I inserted the USB into it, "Transaction 286 from agent 007" popped up. Whoever the agent is, they must have written the code. After hacking the firewalls, a string of binary code then pops out on the screen, the language of zeros and ones are easily translated into a short combination of letters.
AG.DHAEAC, GH.DIBDGF
Forty minutes later...
“Damn.” I whisper yelled irritably and tried to control myself from smashing the stupid USB on the floor. It's been forty minutes since those letters pooped up on the screen and I still haven't been able to get what it means. Everything I've tried so far as been wrong. I gave up and closed my laptop. Perhaps if I sleep a little, everything will be clear.
