Hayden's pov...
I was attracted to Camilla because of her beauty, her character and her way of thinking. She's thinks really fast and acts fast as well. I knew I could trust her judgment on anything. When I first met her and saw the way she was joking with everything Thomas said, I thought was just gonna be a pain in the neck. Just another work and a complete burden and she won't help a bit. It's funny how she's the entire opposite of my first impression.
People say first impression matters but your first impression about someone might even be wrong.
When we first got to the hotel, I decided that ignoring her was the best so it might reduce my burden and I'll be able to concentrate on the case but I was wrong. I needed her in the case. She was a very fast thinker and quickly puts all the pieces to a puzzle together.
I saw the way she was holding me tight and it felt good but teasing her was what I do best. I love teasing her and hear her insult me back.
"Do you mind releasing your hold on me? You're squeezing the life out of me." I teased.
"Didn't you tell me to hold you tight just now? Why do you have a problem now?"
"Just because I asked you to hold me tight doesn't mean I want to die yet. I know I'm handsome and you probably love the way I'm letting you touch me but reduce your lust please."
She laughed. "Lust? Do you actually think I'll have that kind of feeling towards you? Please! Even if you were the last man on earth, I still won't pick you."
Ouch!
"Say it till you believe it." I smirked and concentrated on driving. She didn't reply too.
Yes! I made Camilla speechless!
We got to the hotel and she jumped off the bike even before I turned off the engine. She started running and I was shocked because she still had a fresh injury on her thigh.
"Hey! Wait!" I shouted and dropped my helmet. I quickly grabbed the key and ran to meet her. "Shit! Just stop running so fast!"
"Try catching up with me and stop complaining!" She shouted back and entered the elevator.
The elevator closed before I could get in.
"What the fuck?! Don't tell me I have to climb the stairs. No!" I hit my hand on the wall and started running up the stairs. "I can do this. I can do this." I kept repeating to myself until I got to the twelfth floor. "I cannot do this. I cannot do this." I gasped for breath and placed my hand on my chest as I sat on the stairs. My shirt was already socked in my sweat and my hair was dripping of sweat. And I was still going to the nineteenth floor.
"Why do I have to have such a ill luck today?!" I shouted. "What if Camilla is in trouble? The way she ran upstairs... Oh no!" I stood up and started running again. I saw a man cleaning the windows on an elevator outside and smirked.
I knocked the window and the man gave me a questioning look. I opened the window and smiled.
"Hey there buddy." I greeted.
"I'm Frank. What do you want?" He asked in a bored way.
"Okay?" I nodded awkwardly. "Anyway, can I get a lift on your..." I pointed at the elevator.
"Why?"
I laughed. "Long story. See, I need to get up there and the elevators are... But I can't use the stairs because it's too stressful so that's why." I replied with a smile and rubbed my hands together.
He still gave me the bored expression and brought out a piece of paper. "You are not allowed to ride on this because it is very dangerous." He read out.
I raised a brow in question. "And you're on it?"
He took another piece of paper out. "This is what my job entails."
"Why are you reading your answers from papers?"
He took another piece of paper. "That is best known to me."
"Er... Okay dude. Anyway, I really need to get up there. My girlfriend is there and she needs my help. Please." I begged.
"You have a girlfriend? Lucky you. My heart has been shattered."
"That's deep."
"I can tell you the story."
"Do I get a ride on your elevator?" I asked.
"Come on board." He said and I smiled and climbed into it through the opened window.
"Oh thank you!" I said excitedly.
"You're welcome. So it all started when..." he began the story.
Oh no! What have I done?!
Few boring minutes of listening to a really stupid story from an heartbroken man with a bored expression later...
"Can't this thing go any faster?!" I asked. I just wished I had climbed the stairs instead of having to listen to this boring story I'm not interested in.
"It can't." He replied.
"Fuck me!!!!!" I cried and he looked at me.
"Shall I continue the story?" He asked.
I stared at him. "Yes. Yes you can." I said and he started again. "That's Camilla! That's my room! Stop this dam thing!" I shouted excited to finally get off this sick ride.
"Okay." He said and stopped the elevator. I entered the room through the window and waved at the man. "Bye."
"Do come to me if you want to hear the rest of the story." He said.
"Oh I will!" I replied and he started the machine again and moved up. "There's no way I'm going back to hear the story." I said and walked to Camila. The room was a mess. "What happened here Camy?" I asked looked around.
"We were late." She replied. She was sitting on the floor and her head was in her knees when I had seen her from outside.
"Late for what? Who scattered the house?" I asked and knelt beside her.
"You know when I told you to speed up, I knew this was gonna happen. You see, they killed Raquel for the diamond and that was also why Amelia was kidnapped but Amelia was no longer wearing the diamond as a necklace..."
"Which means they came here to take the diamond while we were away trying to figure out who was in that building." I completed her speech.
Whoa! I never thought of that! Camilla is a genius!
"Exactly. And I thought we could still meet them here if we were fast enough but we weren't." She said sadly.
"I'm so sorry Camy." I apologized.
"It's not your fault." She said and stood up. "I should go and rest now." she walked to her room and closed the door.
"No. It's my fault. If only I had driven faster this wouldn't have happened." I said looking at her door.
I messed up big time.
