I leaned on the kitchen island and watched as Hayden brushed Orton's white furs with so much ease and love. Ashton was yet to step out of his room and when he finally did, his hair was rough and he looked like a man who had been living on the street for three days.
“Wow! A tornado visited you last night?” I asked, chuckling.
“No. Just an effect of sleepless night but your sweet brown soup will do the trick,” He said.
I laughed. “Really? Too bad I'm not in the mood to cook,” I said.
“You've tasted her cooking before?” Hayden asked, looking at Ashton as if accessing his features. Any one would considering how Ashton looked like he just wrestled a raccoon.
“A couple of times. She's the best, after her mum of course,” Ashton said.
I laughed. “Thanks for the compliment Ashton. But I'm pretty sure it was because mum trained me well,” I said, walking out of the kitchen.
“Thomas and I have really missed both your cooking but here you are denying me of what I've longed for,” He said.
“If your food is so good, then I would also love to have a taste,” Hayden says, standing from his couched position.
“You really should. You'd fall in love with it... If not with the cook herself,” Ashton told him.
My eyes widened a bit and I looked at Hayden who smiled to himself then sent me a smirk. “I'm not in any mood right now. Plus, shouldn't you be telling us where Jewel is?” I asked, trying to change the subject.
“I should but I would when you give me what I want,” Ashton said.
“What...” I looked for Hayden for back up hoping he would just tell Ashton that business cones first.
“I agree with Ashton on this. Work can come after breakfast,” He said. It was useless hoping he'd support me.
I grunted. “Fine! I cook us something but you guys better be looking for a way to safe all those people,” I warned.
“We would,” They both said.
I turned back into the kitchen to make chicken and molasses. An hour and a half later, I was done cooking.
“Uhm... What smells so nice in here?” I turned around to see Hayden walking in. He was wearing sweatpants and a hoodie. He looked like the bad boy that would stick by Benny's window at night from the novel fiction, Benny's Bad Boy. But he was my bad boy and not Benny's now. “Keep checking me out like that and I'll be forced to take this hoodie off so you can access me even more,” He said. He caught me.
I smiled amidst my embarrassment and instead picked out some plates from a kitchen cabinet. “I won't get a bit mesmerized if you do that,” I lied through my teeth.
“Don't you feel guilty when you lie?” He asked, walking to the food.
“I do. But am I to feel guilty when I speak the truth?” I asked. I was fast enough to snap his hand off when he was about to touch the chicken.
“Hey! It's my kitchen!” He whined.
“So far I'm the cook, it's mine. Now, go talk to Ashton outside,” I said.
“Are you trying to send me out?”
“Yes.”
“Too bad Ashton is taking his bath.”
“You're insufferable.”
“Yeah babe. And anyway, I thought I should come help you in setting the table.”
“And steal the first taste too? Never mind.” I picked the chicken up and moved it to the dining table.
“Okay. I'll just help,” He said and grabbed the plates.
“Thanks then.”
As I went in to take the molasses, we bumped into each other. Although it had no effect on me or him, he still held my waist. I sensed it was just to bring me closer to him... Not that I was complaining.
“You should be careful,” He whispered.
“And you shouldn't use little opportunities to get closer,” I whispered back.
“They're opportunities. They're meant to be used. I can't be foolish enough to ignore them,” He said.
So, I didn't want to be jumpy but I wondered why he was yet to kiss me. My heart was racing and I just wanted to feel his lips on mine. But he seemed not to be interested in that and only wanted to tease me. Perhaps I should give him a head. I licked my lips and just as I hoped his gaze locked on them.
“Do I need to ask for permission?” He asked.
“You never had to,” I replied.
My reply wasn't only a shock to him but to me as well. Where has being shy and secretive about my feelings and want for him gone?
He smiled and before I could think of anything else like how beautiful his smile was on him, his lips brushed mine.
“Guys! Where are you?!” We heard Ashton's voice coming from the parlor and I was thankful he didn't just walk in on us. It would have been really embarrassing. We parted.
“Dude, we're here!” Hayden called. He looked at me and in spite of the smile on his lips, I noticed his eyes shining under the kitchen light. And it held a different emotion. Like he wanted more. But I'm not really good at reading people's emotions when it came to love so it might just be something else.
As Ashton came into the kitchen, I walked away to clean up the area I used. It was just a way to get away from Hayden's eyes after such a beautiful moment.
“I've seen the food and I can't just wait to bite at it,” Ashton said.
“They're tempting just like the cook,” Hayden said. My eyes shot up immediately and he smirked. Not his flirtatious one. His mischievous, annoying, i-need-a-slap smirk.
Ashton laughed. “If I didn't know you by now, I'd think you're flirting with her,” Ashton said.
“And what makes you think I'm not? Hayden asked, facing him swiftly.
“I don't know,” Ashton shrugged. “No offence Camilla, but I guess she isn't your type,” He said.
Ouch!
“Then you don't know anything about me,” Hayden said. He tapped Ashton's shoulder and walked out of the kitchen.
But if I analysed what he said correctly, I think he meant I was his type of girl. Should I be happy right now? Hell yeah! A smile crept to my face.
“I don't know what that was but I have a feeling he's into you,” Ashton said.
“That shouldn't be on your mind right now. Just be happy I cooked for you,” I said and made for the door. He slid his arm across my shoulder and walked out with me.
“How did you get so tall in just three months?” I asked.
“Three and a half months sis. And you've always been short,” He pointed out.
I jerked his side and he grunted and laughed.”
