It was around midnight now, i was sitting in a room looking out the window. It was a peaceful night, you would have never known a war just went down between two families. I looked around the forest that surrounded us, silence. Not even the wind was blowing tonight, nothing but the sound of crickets singing in the moonlight. The sky was crystal clear, i could make out a few stars through the tree tops, but not what i wanted to see.
"Cassidy," Sam said softly from the bedroom doorway. I turned and looked at him, he was in a tank top, his arm was bandaged up and a little blood was showing through but nothing to worry about. I smile a little and look back out the window.
"It's so peaceful out here," i say as he sits next to me on the floor next to the huge slider door. He didn't say anything for the longest time, so i looked over to him. He was looking out in the forest with such intensity.
"Sam, tell me everything will be okay?" i whisper trying not to cry, because honestly we still haven't heard a word from any of the adults, and it scares me. Plus, half of the group is missing still. I hear him sigh and he pulls me so i was sitting between his legs, my back against his chest and arms wrapped around me. We were looking out the window again.
"I can't make promises Cassidy. I want to tell you everything is going to be fine and this is all a bad dream, but this is happening and it is real. There isn't anything I or anyone else can do to stop it, your dad made his fate when he joined that gang years ago. But i can promise that you and everyone here will be okay," he whispers kissing my head. I hold his hand and close my eyes.
"I don't want to die," i say as a tear slides down my cheek.
"I won't let you die..I will die to make sure that doesn't happen Cass," he says in such a serious tone that it makes my body heat up. We sit like this for awhile, holding each other on the floor in the moonlight. Sam showed something tonight, a softer side to him then that tough guy act he plays for everyone else.
"Hey Sam," i say as he rubs circles on the back of my hand with his thumb.
"Hmm," he says softly.
"Do you ever wonder what would have happened if you didn't leave? That none of this would have happened and things stayed normal like when we were little?" I asked turning my head so i could see him behind me. He looks at me with a smile.
"I do, i think that our friendship would be stronger than ever, and i would be like another brother to you...But at the same time I am happy this happened," he said which confused me.
"Why?" I asked showing my confusion.
"Because brothers can't do this," he says as he softly kisses my lips. My stomach erupts into a million little butterflies as he kisses me. It was amazing and so much more. He pulled away and looks at me, searching for something. I open my eyes and we stare at each other for minutes.
"Wow," i whisper making him chuckle a little.
"Like i said, i would die if it meant protecting you," he says making me smile. I lean back against him and his arms once again wrap around me. I don't know how long we were like this, but somewhere along the way i fell asleep.
"Whoa when did this happen?" I heard TJ's voice. I slowly opened my eyes, Sam and I were still on the floor, only he was leaned against the wall and i was still between his legs resting against him. We must have fallen asleep like this.
"TJ i swear to God i will kill you if you make one smart ass comment," Sam says from behind me making me laugh. TJ looked shocked, i don't know if it was because of what Sam had just said or because Sam and I were like this.
"Was this part of the mission or nah?" TJ says with a smirk. Sam makes a sudden move to get up and TJ takes off running. I laugh even more, they were like little kids. Sam shakes his head and pulls me to my feet along with himself.
"Sleep well?" he asked with a smirk. I playfully glare at him.
"I don't even remember falling asleep," I say as we walk to the kitchen. Sam gets a glass of water for himself.
"Yeah me either, but i'm not complaining," he teases making me punch his good arm. He laughs until Cole comes in. His arms crossed leaning on the door way.
"We got a call from Layla," he says making us all gather in the living room.
"Mom?" Molly says as we are gathered around Cole's cell phone.
"Hey baby....Is everyone there?" she asks us.
"Well, not everyone. We have Molly, Talia, Sam, Keegan, TJ, Josh, Cassidy, and Me," Cole says to her. "What about you?" he questioned her. She was whispering, meaning she was hiding.
"Maria is with me and Amber. All the boys are somewhere else, i can't get a hold of them," she says in a panic.
"What about my mom and dad?" I cut in worried about them.
"I'm sorry baby girl, i haven't got word from them yet either," she says. "Listen, they can track all your cells, smash them and get rid of them as soon as you can," she says as we hear voices and then she shouts. The commotion is followed by a series of gun shots and then static.
